J and E Gaillard French Antique Copper Fish Poacher, Turbotiere or Fish Kettle Very Old All Solid Copper Well Used Condition Fully Stamped
J and E Gaillard Stamped, Full Copper Handles, Worn, Bruised, Indentations, Great Patina, Missing Tin, Castellated Joints. No lid or insert all long gone, it may be a really early one that didnt have them in the first place! Massive Turbot Poacher made by J and E Gaillard 81, Faubourg, St Denis, Paris This is a museum Turbotiere or Fish Kettle or Fish Poacher. Turbots were a lot bigger in the 1800's! It weighs over 20 pounds! This fish pan has many signs of wear and use but has been retinned, it has not been restored merely refurbished so it retains the old patina but is now ready for another go in the kitchen. This is the best of both worlds for the copper enthusiasts who want to see the age but still use the heirloom - copper history in action. This pan is as 'old as the hills', it is beautiful and useful. It has been re tinned, worn off, (we have now retinned this) used for cooking thousands of fish over the years in a Normandy Hotel near Caen. This has been the mainstay of a Hotel/Restaurant Kitchen and it shows. I am not sure of any other item in the kitchen were you can still use something that is so old, could tell so many stories and still be completely functional. It is totally hand made. It has hammer marks and is made with separate pieces of copper fixed together, castellated joints. The handles are fixed securely with copper rivets. The lid has a wavy edge from years of use and cleaning. There are other marks P&O and a C plus a crown. This pan was in the same family business for generations, it's an instant heirloom for your family or business. I really love this pot. It has a silkiness that can only come from years of use and cleaning. It has a solid, dependable quality that is impossible to fake. The first time you use this pan you will know it will never let you down. If you want a signature pan in your kitchen, the item that says who you are - this is it. This is a fabulous centre piece! A prized cook's prized possession This is all solid copper - the handles included - real old fashioned quality. It has loads of dinks, marks scratches all add and not detract from the visual impact of the piece. It is fully marked J and E Gaillard 81, Faubourg, St Denis, Paris. It weighs 9.1 kilos 20 lbs 1 oz It is 63 cm across 24 3/4 inches and 53 cm wide 20 7/8ths inches approximately. No 3017
