Soap star Chandler Massey is a big hit in his first appearance at a Gay Pride event
It's been more than a year since Chandler Massey's character on NBC's Days of Our Lives came out as gay.
But the 22-year-old actor had never before appeared at a Gay Pride event until Saturday (22 June) when he rode in the parade in Columbus, Ohio and met with fans after.
‘It was unreal,’ he told Gay Star News after the parade. ‘I can’t believe how many people were here. I’m so glad I’ve been able to do this.’
Massey added: ‘What’s been overwhelming is how many people have told me how much the Will and Sonny storyline has helped them in some way. They are saying some amazing things and it is a reminder to me that Days is really doing something special.’
One fan at the event posted on Tumblr his experience meeting Massey: 'I shared my story of his character, Will, helping my mom accept my sexuality with him ... he was dumbfounded and we were both almost in tears.'
It was just eight days ago that Massey won his second consecutive Daytime Emmy for his portrayal of Will Horton. His character came out to himself and others last year and embarked on his first serious relationship with another man.
This being a soap opera, there have been a few unexpected dramas along the way. In the past month alone, Will has survived being shot and becoming a father when his ex-girlfriend gave birth to his child.
Will is also living with the fact that his parents covered up his shooting his former stepfather in the head several years earlier. The stepfather survived and is now engaged to remarry Will's mother who has been arrested for shooting a dirty cop to death in her other ex-husband's hospital room.
