The hovercraft ride back to Thirteen dragged on. Annie felt like an empty shell, there was nothing there. Knowing she would never see him again had broken her completely. She didn’t know what she was going to do now, she was lost. Emotions were high in everyone around her, so nobody really spoke and the atmosphere was unpleasant, the only sounds breaking the silence were the sobs escaping those who had lost someone important, like Katniss and Mrs Everdeen. The rebellion might have succeeded in its main aim, but it had ripped apart those involved in the process.
Upon their arrival, everyone went their separate ways to deal with the recent events in the best way they could until they would be returned to their home District over the next few days. Alone, Annie made her way through Thirteen, her vision blurred by the tears that were falling. She wondered how she was still able to cry, she felt that she had nothing left. She would run out of tears before she would heal her heart. After walking around for a while, she stopped dead in the middle of a corridor, she didn’t want to go back to their compartment, it would only remind her of him and she didn’t want that, not now. She needed to clear her head so she could at least calm herself for a while.
So she knew who to look for, she just didn’t know where to go. Cora could be anywhere, but Annie needed a friend so she was determined to find her. She didn’t know how long she had been walking for, but by the time she found herself in the same place as she had been in the first few days of their arrival in Thirteen, her tears had dried and now all she could do was sob with no physical evidence of heartbreak.
“C-cora?” she called out as loud as her voice would allow her, “Are you here?”
