Lex had been bottling things up again.
He thought he’d landed on his feet for once when Cord said he could stay for as long as he needed to. Once he’d settled in, though, without the worry about food, shelter and his medical costs as a distraction, Lex had nowhere left to hide from his trauma and the emotional issues that stemmed from it.
He hadn’t even meant to get carried away like that, just vent a little of the anger and frustration that was eating away at him. Hell, Lex didn’t even know he was capable of it, but the last thing he intended to do was explode damn near half of all the lightbulbs in the bar. He wasn’t even aware he’d affected anything that far from where he had been smashing the shit out of an old t.v that was lying out near the edge of the property until all the lights went out.
Even so, Lex looked just as surprised at what he’d done as Cord did, and he was too freaked out by it to even bother trying to hide the fact that he’d been crying.
There had been no storms in the area, the evening full of clear skies and a light, cool breeze. One of those nights that normally would have had her just perched on the top of the water tower, idly drinking and staring out over the grounds. But not tonight. No, tonight she was standing out past the garage, brows lifted in surprise as she stared at her son’s friend, not having expected that to happen.
“You uh, wanna tell me what the goddamn fuck that was, kid? Cuz that’s a little more ‘n makin’ sparks jump between yer fingers.”
There was also no way anyone as human as she had thought Lex was could pull that off either. There were a few families that had a strong power base and she had DNA from at least one member of each of them. A small price to ask in return for favors, she supposed. Maybe there was more to the kid than even he knew, but she wasn’t sold on that idea.
