Whether you are a seasoned athlete or your just wanting to toss a few in the backyard with a friend or son. You may want to try and take your abilities to the next level by increasing the distance at which you can throw a ball, or improve the accuracy at which you can throw a ball. These tips are pertinent to a wide range a ball players, including but not limited to; football, softball, baseball and cricket. There are common muscle groups related to the throwing motion that can be conditioned to accept a greater amount of stress and increase speed, velocity, and accuracy in return.
The first concern here is your core strength and balance. The strength of your core can and will be a major factor in your capacity to generate force, upon the object your throwing. Abdominal crunches are a great and simple exercise that can used to increase core strength. Don't underestimate the power of this classic exercise! Core balance keeps you in a good position to stay stabilized during the throwing motion and promote injury prevention. A strong and healthy core promotes a great deal in the increase of accuracy as well. A good example of an exercise to improve your core balance are single leg bends. Make sure that your raised leg is approaching near 90 degrees or almost parallel to floor to make sure your going to see gains in balance.
The second concern we will address here is the importance of strengthening your triceps. The rapid extension of the triceps are essential to almost all throwing actions. A great exercise to improve this function is performing tricep extensions. This exercise may require a partner and I should also note that you don't want to overload on weight too much in this exercise. Too much on the elbows can cause an increase in wear and tear at that joint.
