I was babbling something about needed exposition in re Grissom and Sara earlier, but I think the point needs to be reiterated that some kind of explanation is needed concerning the wholesale turnover of the personnel at the crime lab.
I realize there would be a lot of explaining to do vis-a-vis all of the now departed characters, but the fact that there is so much explaining is what makes it seem unlikely everyone would have left in 6 years. That’s a departure rate on par with a fast food franchise.
This whole reboot thing has been out there for a while now, and a multitude of discussions have taken place on the various social media outlets, so the new (and old) PTB at CSI most certainly are aware of the folks who want to see Catherine, Greg, Nick, Doc Robbins, Super Dave, and Morgan, not to mention Henry. Or, at the very least, know what became of them.
Of course, the easiest solution would be for Gil and Sara to ask: “What happened to [fill in the blank]?” Personally, I find it highly unlikely that the two of them were completely out of touch with their friends for 6 years, so if Greg or Catherine, for instance, left of their own volition, I think they would have let them know one way or another.
They are obviously doing their level best to draw in old fans of the franchise, but I hope they don’t make the mistake of assuming that “GSR Fans” were a one-trick pony, i.e., that GSR was the be all and end all of the show for them.
I also think we need to keep in mind that we don't know everything that went on BTS. There is a possibility others were contacted to join the show and declined; if so, that's their private business. 6 years is a long time, and people move on.
Anyway this is my incoherent hope that the history of CSI won't be swept completely under the rug, and we will be given some kind of plausible reason for the absence of all the other characters we knew and loved.
Finally, whatever that explanation (which we seriously need), I hope it doesn’t obviate the possibility that some of those folks could potentially make an appearance somewhere down the line.
