I'm (trying to )helping out a friend with some concepting for a new company they're helping start. Said friend sent me a link to the company blog, along with a few specific posts to look at to get a feel about what they're going for as they start this journey.

This particular post is just rather... close. Disempowerment is something I've had tremendous problems with lately, and I think reading more things like this could help me manage those issues. It's kind of like... one of those "OH!" moments and you realize you should really think about something a lot differently than you have been.

It's a hard cycle to break. I have had it happen both at work and with art--the desire to get things a little bit cleaner, take them a little bit further and then...not getting around to asking for help. The right help can usually speed things up by an order of magnitude.

I appreciate the beauty in pursuing high ideals, or virtues. So many get caught up in "their story", their past, the things they are or are not. The things they can or can't do. To chase after an ideal and let it change you, I find that to be an admirable goal.

I love my job. It amazes me how many people have jobs they hate. I've definitely had less than enjoyable jobs that I had to "endure". But, well...I quite the last one of those before lining something else up and ended up at an awesome job. I have a strong bias towards doing things that make me happy even if the cost might be very high. (Also, It's hard to have the energy to find an awesome job when you're spending time at a soul sucking one.) If you can't be yourself at work the company either has a sucky culture or you're not a fit for their culture.

Feelings can tell you a lot if you listen. It seems like people will often either jump to a conclusion about why they're feeling how they're feeling or overanalyze to the point where the feelings are not felt. I find I have to accept and experience before I can explain (and then usually by talking to a couple friends about The Thing).
