Over the years many people have asked what motivated me to start raising money for Corgis in need. There are many reasons, but I wanted to go into greater detail so everyone could get a better understanding of why I’m a committed Non-Profit Corgi.
In 2010 when I was still living in the suburbs of Maryland I started having skin issues. What started as simple “hot spots” became progressively worse, turning into large lesions and multiple patches of fur loss all over my body.
There were countless vet appointments, medications, ointments, diet changes, and tests to try and figure out what was going on but we could not get it under control. It was a very scary, stressful and frustrating time. Eventually I ended up seeing a veterinary dermatologist who was able to determine I was suffering from an antibiotic resistant Staphylococcus infection, a puppy MRSA.
While the infection was being treated we found out that I also suffered from multiple environmental allergies that had exacerbated the symptoms of the MRSA. I went through allergy testing and have been on a treatment plan that has kept me in great shape and comfortable throughout the year. Other than my unique style of pants and a few bald patches (that Da has gotten very good at avoiding in pictures) there was no lasting damage.
All of this took a tremendous amount of time and money. We are fortunate enough that with the help of my pet insurance we were able to afford to do what was needed to diagnose and treat the infection and allergies. The Uprights and I can’t imagine being in a situation where we lacked the resources to find out what was wrong, or worse, know, but not be able to afford treatment.
When people mentioned that they would be interested in a calendar featuring me, a light bulb went off. My first calendar was in 2014 in support of CorgiPals and when they ceased operations I started supporting CorgiAid, Inc.
I’m extremely proud and humbled to be able to announce that after the sales of the 2017 calendar I will have raised over $10,000!
