Tugger stopping by to check in with the twins and getting his tail set on fire for it...
But apparently not learning his lesson, because he'll be back later to cause friction between them.
Cori wanted some of the Tugger love too. 😾
Alex Snova as Tugger, Petra Ilse Dam as Tantomile, Rhys Batten as Coricopat, and Stephen Martin Allan as Mistoffelees. Vienna revival, sometime in 2022 (source).
Bombalonzo snuggles! Plus Demandra and Coricomile.
Fletcher Dobinson as Alonzo, Suzie Melloy as Bombalurina, Ella Nonini as Demeter, Emily Casey as Cassandra, Aaron Lynch as Coricopat, Anina Pletscher (I think) as Tantomile, and Tyler Lotzof as Victoria, 2020 Asia tour.
I, like a lot of people, view them as twins most of the time. But sometimes i don’t. So I’m going to talk about some of my headcanons for when i ship them as mates.
Coricopat and Tantomile have a unique relationship. They are both mystical cats with powerful telepathic and empathic abilities who on a deep soul level resonate in perfect harmony. They are so deeply connected that they do something they describe as Soul Cuddling, where their souls literally pull each other close and gently cradle and caress each other. A sign that they are doing this is when they mirror each other’s movements. which they do a lot.
Some cats are confused by the fact that they look physically identical, asking lots of questions about weather they looked different before they got together. Just lots of analyzing and theories. Tantomile and Coricopat just look at them like their insane and say “They’re my Soul’s Mate. Of course our physical bodies match.” If the questioner is smart they just leave it at that.
When the two met, it was like there was an electric charge the instant their eyes met. It was love at first sight in the fact that they knew in the depths of their souls, in that second, how important the other was.
On a not soul level, the pair adore each other as well. Tantomile loves what a goofball her mate is and his “Serious Face” never fails to make her laugh. Coricopat loves his “Spooky” wife. He finds it hilarious when Tantomile uses her reputation to tease other cats. No one else but him can tell if her Ominous Proclamations are serious or not. He’ll never give it away. It’s just too much fun.
The two absolutely go whole hog for Halloween, just the most spooky scary everything. They don’t know when to tone it down tho and have been the cause of many a kittens nightmares. But everyone loves to have Tantomile (with help from Cori) tell creepy stories during this time with full knowledge that she won’t hold back and Tanto will only tell them when asked.
The pair seriously wanted to adopt Mistoffelees. even tho he A) had a family. and B) was technically of age when they met. They were still very very determined to adopt the little magical cat. They weren’t sure if it was as older siblings or parents, they just wanted to adopt him. They settled for being his teachers and magical confidants. They will, if danger strikes, react in a “Don’t Touch My Kid!” manner. The fact that Misto is only about 9 years younger then them is dismissed as a technicality when brought up.
Bows and show notes - Aussie tour Sunday 18/01/26 (1pm)
covers: Tod Strike as Deut, Dominique Hamilton as Demeter, Thalia Smith as Cassandra.
(curtain call and stage door notes for 6pm show here)
So! @falasta and @cryptidvoidwritings were over for the week to see Melbourne kitties, and I saw a couple of this week's shows with them (though not, alas, the Saturday ones where Joe Miller escaped the booth to be Munkustrap, and Cassandra didn't exist so Bomba and Deme and Jelly split her role between them).
But they were flying back home on Sunday, and I had long ago booked the Sunday night performance back when that was meant to be closing night before they opened up a couple of extra weeks... and then falasta's flight got changed from a morning departure to late late evening, so after checking out of her hotel in the morning, where should we spend our time but IN THE JUNKYARD so we booked last-minute balcony tickets for the matinee and got her ONE LAST SHOW and this one for the first time all this week included a Tantomile (Demeter can look to her again for confirmation that fake Deut is fake! women supporting women).
So weird to be able to see the whole stage at once without turning my head.
I could even watch Tim's Misto doing his solo thing and at the same time see Savannah's Rumpelteazer stealing his light-up jacket from Tugger. As she deserves.
Once thing that really fascinated me this week was how Coricopat appears when he has no twin (same would be true for Tantomile without Cori, I assume). Sudden main character energy: there's this one character with a very striking asymmetrical design (and, with the new makeup plots, one of the very few cats with distinct dark markings on their face), and they are always the first to respond to anything that happens.
They're downstage centre for the opening of 'Jellicle Songs', asking whether you can ride on a broomstick etc; they come and poke at the sneakily sleeping tomkits at the start of 'Gumbie'; they react early to Tugger's entrance, then apparently lead the tribe's alertness and resentment against Grizabella, and respond equally with Munkustrap and Alonzo to the Macavity scare after Bustopher Jones. Then they and Mistoffelees consult to confirm that they believe it is Old Deuteronomy... etc. By this stage it looks like this strange cat must surely be going to get a song and a name at some point...?
And Coricojosh is such a very noticable character onstage because he spins and sproings and prat-falls all over the place (a habit which helped me confirm which of the Macavity decoys is him, incidentally - yes I saw you sproing down Josh-fashion off those steps on house left!)
But, as he moped at stage door on Thursday, "I have to be weird all alone!" When you have the twinsync, you immediately know these cats are just being weird and psychic and disconnected from normal perception because they're cats I guess and cats see weird things, so this is just normal for them. And you don't really get that impression with just one of them there. From the audience, you're left waiting for an explanation.
But Josh did such a lovely job of covering the temporal and physical space left by Tantomile's absence - see, for example, his Battle Yoga - including just doing some extra spinning and beats in the curtain calls. And then today finally Sarah was back, so we got some delighted beams when they did the lift in 'Jellicle Songs' and an overall more happy and relaxed Coricopat.
I am also really enjoying Thalia Smith's Cassandra! She's imposing but with a sneaky little playful edge under that. She gives the impression of graceful indolence as a cover for a lot of suppressed and concentrated energy, so that you're alway wondering what she's going to do. Plus shout-out to her makeup which somehow gives me pre-revival Australasia vibes, so bonus nostalgia points there.
And Tom Davis is a gem as always and very dedicated to recognising and acknowledging everyone at stage door and then recognising them in the audience later and acknowledging them in character. In fine Skimbleshanks tradition.
Cast is: Edward Smith (Admetus/Macavity), Rania Potaka-Osborne (Alonzo), Todd McKenney (Asparagus/Bustopher), Charlie Follows (Bill Bailey), Mia Dabkowski-Chandler (Bombalurina), Guy Pik (Carbuckety), Thalia Smith (Cassandra), Joshua Gordon (Coricopat), Dominique Hamilton (Demeter), Tod Strike (Deuteronomy), Gabriyel Thomas (Grizabella), Lucy Maunder (Jellylorum), Ella Fitzpatrick (Jemima), Leigh Archer (Jennyanydots), Timothy Haskayne (Mistoffelees), Jake O’Brien (Mungojerrie), Jarrod Draper (Munkustrap), Savannah Lind (Rumpelteazer), Des Flanagan (Rum Tum Tugger), Tom Davis (Skimbleshanks), Sarah Bourke (Tantomile), and Claudia Hastings (Victoria).
In which Tugger makes Admetus' brain flat-line with some tender face-touches.
... or, depending on your perspective: in which Coricopat offends Tantomile with a leggie in the face, so she goes and shimmies with Tugger while he loses all his legs in penance and becomes coricoflat.
Des Flanagan as Tugger, Edward Smith as Admetus, Sarah Bourke as Tantomile, and Joe Miller covering Coricopat. Australia tour, 28/12/25 (my wonky grainy footage).
a little moment of connection between Demeter and Tantomile
Petra Ilse Dam's Tantomile seems to understand Demeter very well—among other things, she picks up immediately on her unease about fake Deuteronomy, and reacts with aggression towards him.
(alternatively: Demeter realising she has no chance at getting between Coricopat and Tantomile and their twinsync.)
Jo Lucy Rackham covering Demeter, and Rhys Batten as Coricopat.
Vienna revival, 24/06/2022, filmed by @cryptidvoidwritings and @falasta.
(And if you're looking for that other ship in the background, it's giffed over here.)
Tumblebrutus is very good at listening quietly and not fidgetting.
at all.
oops, hairball.
(Also the smoke machine is being over-enthusiastic, so a lot of the cast are incorporating 'trying to wave/blow the smoke away' into their reactions to Old Deuteronomy's words.)
Bennett Ryan as Tumblebrutus, with Issy Moore as Victoria, Lance Barker by Coricopat, and Ashlyn Fenn as Tantomile. Oasis cast 13, May 2023 (X).
