BLESS YOUR TAGS about God!Cas on that last post. I agree 10000%.
I just remember going through s6 the first time, having been told Cas goes major darkside this season. Yet for almost the entire season, for every “bad thing” Cas did, I could name three worse things Sam and Dean have done. I was baffled what was so “wrong” with Cas’s choices. They seemed necessary, reasonable…until the last few episodes.
CAS’S CHARACTER WAS MISTREATED AND ABUSED ALL OF S6 AND HERE’S WHY.
Screened the Winchesters’ calls, lied about Sam
Yeah, Cas fucked up a bit in trying to resurrect Sam. Obviously Cas wouldn’t have left Sam the way he did if he hadn’t tried everything possible to get Sam back in one piece! For goodness sake Cas plunged himself into the cage housing the DEVIL and the VERY PISSED OFF archangel Michael! Cas’s brothers! He risked God-knows-what to get Sam out when the ARCHANGELS THEMSELVES couldn’t bust the cage. Cas didn’t HAVE to do that. He didn’t HAVE to try.
And Cas sees that the Sam he raised is dangerous, but he’s out of options. Dean is living his simple apple-pie life, and Cas cannot bring himself to bother Dean. EVEN WHEN CAS IS FEELING LOST AND AFRAID HE REFUSES TO BOTHER DEAN. HE REFUSES TO RISK DEAN’S HAPPINESS EVEN WHEN HE’S PANICKED. Let’s be honest—Cas is afraid. He’s afraid of Dean hating him for bringing Sam back wrong and for not telling him. He’s afraid of Sam’s broken moral compass. Like any Winchester—he keeps secrets out of fear.
But he IGNORED THEIR CALLS!!1!
Again, Cas was A LITTLE BUSY STOPPING THE NEXT APOCALYPSE. Really every time he was summoned in s4 or s5 it was to throw his life away for Sam and Dean. Sorry if he’s been a little busy not getting assassinated by the other angels. Sorry if he’s been busy concocting, single-handedly, a way to stop the apocalypse. Sorry Cas has bigger things to throw his life away for.
He lied about Crowley being dead
Boo-hoo you big hypocrites. SAM AND DEAN teamed with Crowley to stop Lucifer. But obviously it’s UNFORGIVABLE when Cas teams with Crowley to…stop Lucifer. Again. If Crowley wants to play dead, fine, let him play dead. There are worse compromises to make when stopping ARMAGEDDON. Sam and Dean, might I remind you that dozens of people DIED the first time around helping you?
He tortured that kid, remember!
Hmm, torturing out of desperation…? Doesn’t ring a bell…Was there any other character on that show who was pushed to his limits and willingly tortured someone? I doubt it! Because then we’d HATE that guy.
I keep in mind that Cas used the term “year” in air quotes, describing how long it’s been. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s been on the angel battlefield for ten times that. Morality is a hard thing to consider when you’re fighting against the end of the world.
He’s secretly working with Crowley though (gasp)
Again, Sam and Dean are not entitled to know EVERYTHING Cas is doing, especially when it’s the only shot at stopping the end of the world. It’s BECAUSE OF CAS that Crowley doesn’t hurt them. Cas swore up and down that he would END Crowley if Crowley tried to hurt them. Cas knows that he is doing. CAS KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING. Sam and Dean have been dancing with devils way longer and that was never an issue.
But the last couple episodes of s6
*cringe* Yeah, THIS is what bugs me so bad! Look, I get that Cas was desperate. I get that Cas was falling to pieces trying to save the world while Sam and Dean turn on him like snubbed teenage girls. BUT. I think it was done for drama and nothing else, and that’s why Cas went SO darkside
Was I dreaming when he promised to END CROWLEY if he hurt a single hair on their heads? No? Then what the HELL was Cas doing breaking Sam’s wall? It’s like…he needed them out of his HAIR. JUST PUT THEM TO SLEEP. JUST LOCK THEM SOMEWHERE LIKE “I’m so so sorry to do this but it’s for your own good.”
Cas had no reason to break Sam’s wall other than the PLOT wanting Sam’s wall to finally get broken.
AND BEN AND LISA? no. no. This is the Cas who wouldn’t even TALK to Dean for fear of ruining Dean’s happiness, no way in HELL Cas should have roped them into the line of fire. Drama.
And then (ugh)…God!Cas. “Bow down to me” God!Cas. …WHY? SINCE WHEN? Cas has been INFINITELY MORE POWERFUL than Sam and Dean since his introduction. I don’t see how extra juice in his battery would make him LOSE HIS MIND, throw Sam and Dean to the wayside, and demand WORSHIP. That is not Cas. That is not Cas.
In my opinion, it was done because ALL the season finales have to end on an “Oh shit—!” moment. Without God!Cas, the season could have wrapped up nicely.
Cas’s character was abused in s6, and I will always be angry.
