For 29 years Cornerstone Theater Company has brought together professional ensembles to partner with groups and individuals, telling stories about communities. In the process they have performed not just on stage but in schools, factories, parking lots and subway stations. In March, 2014, they asked Los Angeles artist Bourne to repaint the Traction Ave. entry alcove for their Los Angeles Arts District theater. A YouTube video titled Aise Bourne, by Chanel Page, not only tells his story but raises challenging and controversial questions about artist’s choices between bread and art supplies, relationships between graffiti and gangs, and society’s responses to graffiti-related crime.
