Kate swallowed as she took the first step on that path that would take them to the pond in Central Park that always seemed to have the best ice cream or hot dog vendors, or at least did well over a decade and a half ago when she went there with her mother. It was also the same path she had taken before she was a hero. When she was young and in a prep school uniform and was out too late and that night that turned her into the words victim or survivor. She liked survivor better. She hated victim. But it was daylight, Clint was next to her. She could also close to kill anyone who tried to do that again. Still, she didn’t like remembering the feelings of that night, which the smells and sights brought back. But she wanted to show Clint that pond. And have ice cream. She just kept going and then took a deep breath “Clint, would you mind staying on my left, please?” years of therapy and she still didn’t like feeling unprotected here, but hey, she was here. “It’s only like a ten minute walk to the pond.” her voice was steady and even, which was good.
