Lately, I haven’t been doing many new doodles—I've been playing through the Volcano Manor comic draft, as well as Dark Souls Remastered and Dark Souls III.

And the unfinished Roundtable Hold drawing.

Cornyx that are just a bundle of unhealthy behaviours. Nyx who doesn't eat breakfast except drinking a triple shot espresso (and then wonders why he's all wired and weird). Cor who doesn't sleep until he's falling asleep on his desk. Them going like "that's unhealthy" at each other but nothing changes

cornyx soulmate/galahdians have magic au

Soulmate AU combined with my Ulric clan magic AU - except in this case the Ulric magic allows them to go beyond just instincts and turn fully into coeurl however an Ulric who does this alone will get trapped in their coeurl form and gradually lose more and more of their human mind until a family member can find them to help them back - soulmates count as family member's - or more specifically the soulmate bond is able to guide an Ulric back the same way the Ulric clan bond does

So then we have a Nyx who transformed to help with the Attack On Galahd, to buy time for Libertus, Crowe and Luche to escape on one of the earlier ships (luche who was his cousin but isnt an Ulric)

Nyx was aware enough to stumble onto the final ship heading to the mainland (and everyone on said ship knew of the Ulric magic and tried help him best as they could) but by the time they got to mainland Lucis he had been transformed for much longer then he had ever been before and upon hitting the shore fled - even though those on the ship tried to stop him

He's technically in the Galahdians records as MIA but everyone very much suspects hes either dead (got killed by hunters) or has lost so much of his mind that he essentially is gone

ANyways a few years later, Cor has a wild ass fucking time when he starts fighting a coeurl on his way back to Insomnia, accidentally brushes against its fur with his bare skin and THEN feels a SOULMATE BOND??????????

Keep in mind this is years later, Nyx has lost years of his fucking life no matter what it is devastating

and because of this Nyx,, cant immediately turn back, hell Nyx dosen't even,, he isn't even aware there is something to turn back to

His instincts just accept cor as a Weird Tall Mate

and goes protective mode over him

hunts Cor food and follows him to camp and heavens

And Cor is like,, reluctantly trying to think how he can ask regis if he can bring his soulmate murder cat into the city

cor is not at all aware about the Ulrics, so he just thinks his soulmate is a coeurl???? for some reason???????? the gods would do that to him, he thinks

Cor: Clarus is going to laugh at me for this (Clarus did in fact laugh at him when he finally gave in and called them)

Regis however hit the books and was trying to figure out, where/when something like this might have happened before????

Regis gets as far as "Some Galahdians were noted to have warrior coeurls who fought alongside them(Ulrics)" right about the time Cor shows back up in Insomnia

and it takes only a day for the rumors of "The Marshal somehow ended up soulmated to a coeurl" to get to the Glaive and immediately Luche, Libertus and Crowe bust down the door to Cor's office

Cors office where Regis and Clarus are debriefing with him

none of the three care about that Crowe is just asking "Is it him is it him?????" and Libertus His best friend, his Ostium and the one who grew up with him and Luche His blood cousin who has always felt magnanimous debt and gratitude to Nyx for saving his life but also extreme guilt that he wasn't "Ulric enough" to be able to get him back, are looking him over

By this point because Nyx has been traveling with his soulmate for months his mind is a little,, more settled? hes still very cat like but a lot more intelligent, which Cor has been kinda picking up on

Either way between Luche's catalogue remembrance of all the stupid scars he got as a kid, and how those transferred to his cat form, and Libertus weak Ostium/Ulric bond they both go "Holy shit thats Nyx"

(now, ostium bonds could have potentially been a way to drag an ulric back, but that dosent work for this plot, same reasoning luche cant help out - ill probably bullshit more solid reasonings for both these cases later)

meanwhile Cor, Clarus and Regis are like ??????????????? Cor espcially "Why the fuck did you just barge into my office" Crowe "Its nyx!" (that dosent explain anything)

except, coeurl!Nyx reacts slightly to her, whether it be her calling his name or her presence and Cor realizes there's something going on here their not privay too

Anyways the three make the executive decision to not explain All Galahdians Have Magic

but instead pass the Ulric magic off as,,, an Ulric Thing

(only Luche realizes the small implication this might have with Regis, Cor and Clarus (aka the three who are used to thinking "The only one with magic granted by the gods" = King, Ulrics = Galahd royalty??)

then i think what follows is a very tiring year of helping Nyx understand hes a person, helping him transform back and then acclimatizing him afterwords

i also think for a very long time he'll keep shifting back into a coeurl because thats whats actually MORE comfortable now

like hell switch to a human for at first a few minuets, then half an hour, then an hour, half a day etc

but he basically has to ALWAYS change into a coeurl for a few hours a day now

and hes distinctly,,, strange

hes half feral on a good day

cant recognize them, or who he is on a bad one

Cor is somehow a very wonderful partner for this even if its heartbreaking to know what happened to his soulmate

i think after a few years though they'd be able to settle into a relationship closer to what id usually imagine for them

just, Nyx can and will become a murder cat at will now, he has 0 fucks to give about most people except his people, and Cor is the only one who can ask him to turn back please [inspired a little off "Petrichor" by pan2fel]

ficlet time!!! cornyx on a date please!

“Do you wanna go out?” Nyx asked, sprawled bonelessly – distractingly – on the bed, enjoying the kind of luxurious air drying that was only possible when Pelna agreed to take Prompto for the night.

“Out?” Cor asked back, slowly peeling off his own clothes to take his turn with the shower.

“You know,” Nyx said, shrugging, “go out, do something fun.” There was a small pause. “Like a date, I guess.”

Cor took a quick inventory of the things he’d done in the past twenty-something years that would be qualified as fun, and which of those he’d be interested in doing with Nyx, which would require them to be both legal and also out of their bed.

Huh.

“Sure,” he said, anyway, because it’d be a little silly, he supposed, to protest the idea of dating, when they were four years into living together and raising a kid. “Anything you’ve got in mind?”

“I don’t know, I just… I want to go out, you know?” Nyx replied with a small shrug, and Cor was absolutely not distracted by the stray beads of water still clinging to his skin while he stretched in a decidedly cat-like fashion and then folded his arms behind his head. “It just feels, I don’t know… All I do is either work or be home and… I don’t know. I used to go out with the guys, have a few drinks, and have fun, but we don’t really go out anymore, ‘cause the kids and everything. And yeah, work gets me out of Insomnia but I’d like to be out and about, and not be shot by Nilfy bastards, you know?” Nyx offered a small smile when Cor hummed in agreement. “So I reckoned, hey, Pelna’s got Prompto for the weekend, and I’m not allowed back in the office until Monday anyway, because owed timed off or some shit. Like the war cares! But you know. It’s just you and me and I figured, hey. You know what we haven’t done yet?” Nyx kicked Cor before he could answer, laughing as Cor grinned at him. “Shut it.”

“We can go out for dinner,” Cor said, coming to sit on the edge of the bed. “And just… walk around, I guess. See what’s new on main street or something.”

“That sounds nice,” Nyx said, because it did.

“Okay,” Cor said, and disappeared into the shower.

“So what’s the difference?” Nyx asked, fifteen minutes later, scrolling through his phone and waiting for Cor to finish getting ready to go out.

Prompto was staying with Pelna again, and the primary thing that stuck to Nyx was his current inability to reciprocate. He was game to look after the kids during the day, but there were… expectations, about night stays. It stuck Nyx as terribly unfair, but so was every other aspect of their life in Insomnia and making a fuss about it only made things worse. So he didn’t. He just found creative ways to get Pelna extra time off and said yes to anything Amira asked of him.

It was fine.

“Hmm?”

Cor leaned out the bathroom to look at him, razor in hand and half his face still to go.

“Between philharmonic and symphonic?” Nyx asked, because he didn’t know, and it was better than all the terrible things caught up in his throat as of late.

Cor blinked slowly.

“I have no idea.”

“There’s a concert tonight,” Nyx explained, when Cor failed to retreat back into the bathroom and finish his shave. “Saw it on the feed, and I realized I didn’t know the difference.”

Cor watched him the way he did sometimes, gauging, and Nyx thought of a bird of prey of sorts. Or a vulture. Like he was being scrutinized and picked apart, but it didn’t chafe, from Cor, because Cor only ever looked at him that way when he was trying to understand him, not looking for ways to point out he was lacking.

“Do you want to go?” He asked, after a moment, brows dipped slightly. “To the concert, I mean.”

The headline that had sparked the question was matched with an article that talked about a new violinist debuting in the orchestra, some famous or other noble’s new compositions being played and the fact everyone that mattered in polite society was bound to attend. Perhaps even the King himself, though they were ever so careful to not assert anything on that regard, so the Royal Household had probably not issued a notice about it.

Nyx didn’t say I don’t belong there, because he wasn’t anywhere near beaten up enough about it.

“It’s starts in an hour and it’s probably sold out already,” he said instead, because despite it all, Clarus’ lessons in diplomacy had stuck.

Cor frowned at him.

“That’s not what I asked.”

Because Cor could never, ever take a fucking hint and let it lie. Could never just look the other way and let things be.

Nyx reckoned that was why he loved the surly fucking bastard so much.

“Sure,” Nyx said, eyebrows arched, “why not.”

It turned out the difference between symphonic and philharmonic was purely the choice of the rich asshole whose pockets kept the orchestra in business.

Nyx found out because he searched the definition on his phone during the intermission. The King did not show for the fancy concert. He knew because Cor had, with the absolute audacity of a stone-cold bastard walked them into the Royal Family’s balcony seats. Nyx did not ask if they were allowed to do that. They brought them wine from a bottle Nyx forced himself not to really look at, because otherwise he ran the risk of later finding out how much it cost and being utterly mad at the fact they finished it without a second thought.

It was nice, was the thing. The wine and the music – such terribly Lucian music, tons of hymns about the Crystal and the sanctity of the Royal Bloodline – and the way Cor kept staring at him instead of the stage because, he admitted, with blunt, graceless honestly, he didn’t really care much for this kind of music, he just wanted to see if Nyx had a good time.

They walked out from a side door, utterly unnoticed even though they were very much not dressed for the occasion, at least not compared to the pomp and garish in the main lobby. No one looked at Nyx and stopped to ask why he was there. The wine was sweet but it stuck to him, and his bones were still rattling from the music.

It was all so very Lucian, but not… not the way it always was?

Like Cor.

Lucian, but not painful.

“That was fun,” Nyx said, sitting in a restaurant that seemed to have squeezed itself into reality between two towering skyscrapers, four blocks away from the concert hall. “We should do it again.”

“Good,” Cor said, deadpan, “it’d be awkward if I couldn’t score a second date.”

Nyx kissed him, for the audacity, but he supposed that only served as encouragement for the terrible creature.

One could hope.

I was lucky enough to get one of @milo-makes-art 's Valentine's commissions and it turned out so good! All the poses are so cute, I had a hard time choosing but this one turned out perfect for my boys!
