coromandel adventures: Coromandel Coastal Walkway!
Coromandel is one of the places in New Zealand we just haven’t heard a lot of while doing our research on where to go, which, reflecting on our time there, it’s absolutely crazy as it turned out to be one of our favourite places to visit. Coromandel is a relatively big area in the central North Island and bus connections are limited. As a backpacker you therefore want to make it as easy as possible and find a company that takes you to the highlights Coromandel has to offer to make the most of your time.
“coromandel adventures” is an incredibly passionate company who made it their mission to create unique tours to make your time in Coromandel as comfortable and unforgettable as possible. As Coromandel’s leading tour operator they have many different tour options to offer. From half day tours to four day tours to completely customised trips there is something for everyone’s needs and requirements. The fact that they also offer to arrange the travel to and from Coromandel via InterCity and the 360 Discovery Ferry Service is another bonus that makes your planning even easier.
After doing a full day tour to see the “Cathdral Cove and Hot Water Beach” we did the “Coromandel Coastal Walkway” tour. The famous coastal walkway is one of the most beautiful walks New Zealand has to offer. It took us about three hours to get to the starting point Stony Bay, which was absolutely beautiful (first photograph).
The walk takes around three to four hours depending on your level of fitness, and takes you through amazing native forest and stunning coastal sceneries plus you even get to swim in lonely bays!
At the end of the walk, at Fletcher Bay, we then had some refreshments and the choice to complete the one hour long Muriwai Track.
The drive back to Coromandel Town through ancient Pohutukawa groves with the most amazing sunset was the perfect ending to an adventurous day. We loved this trip so much, as it showed New Zealand from a completely different side and in our opinion in a very unique and special way. Although the trip again included a lot of driving you see so much of the region and stop at points of interests and the guide was amazing.
In the evening we then got the 360 Discovery Ferry Service back to Auckland, which was kindly organised by “coromandel adventures”, which saved a lot of travel time. When you’re planning your trip to Coromandel, we therefore highly recommend to use the ferry service as it is super quick and works perfectly with the trip schedule.
The Coromandel Coastal Walkway is for people that want to see Coromandel from its best side and who look for a breath-taking walk that can be completed at a reasonable amount of time. It’s basically the best packed into one day!
