can you believe the state of my life that im getting ghosted by the flippin’ kid i got matched to VOLUNTARILY tutor during the covid-19 school closure

so for the 2nd summer in a row i am to be found frantically learning kanji in my bedroom

conspiracy theory: theres no pandemic, we actually went back in time to easter 2017, just before my 18th birthday, and scientists are covering it up by forcing everyone to stay in their houses til they can get us back to the year we’re meant to be in

evidence for:

- im back living at my parents’ house again & its the first time 3 years that ive lived here without a clear plan of a date when i’ll be able to move out again

- last time i felt this anxious about the future was definitely exam term of y13 and having no idea where i would get to for uni or if i would even get anywhere (only now its that ive got no idea if ill get back)

- i can’t go out, though this time not bc im frantically revising for my a levels / punishing myself for not revising for my a levels

- i do have a big birthday coming up, though its likely to suck a lot more than my 18th did.

- i both imperatively need to and physically cannot make myself work

- im reading les misérables for class and its violently transported me straight back to easter holidays 2017 when i saw les mis in the west end and became absolutely obsessed w it for the next 3 months. i sang one day more in the shower this morning without even realising 

- i actually have a book on the go again, haven’t done that in a while and certainly not since ive been abroad

- yesterday i briefly entertained the idea of watching season 3 of 13 reasons why (first watched season 1 during the easter holidays of y13), before realising i still dislike the series just as much as i did in y13

- being back at home, im also reunited w my full stationery collection, so now my bullet journal is once again starting to resemble the one i started when i was 17

- my phone language is set back to french not portuguese or spanish in the futile hope that doing that, again, means i won’t fail my french oral

- im preemptively sad about losing touch w people again

- im obsessively following every news update from anywhere in the eu, even if its no longer about brexit

evidence against:

the suitcase in the middle of my bedroom floor which i still haven’t unpacked even though ive been home for 2 weeks, reminding me every day that i should be miles away from here, as though i don’t wake up every morning w my heart aching in a weird reverse homesickness for so many other places where ive started a life and left it behind

quarantine life update:

(no one wanted this but i am bored)

-my family decided we will each climb the total height of ben nevis by keeping a tally of every time we go upstairs during the quarantine, until we’ve each done it 513 times (supposedly that’s how many stairs ben nevis would have if ben nevis was a mountain made up of stairs). we are competing w my cousin’s family to achieve this as fast as possible. i am definitely losing

-i finally caved and got netflix, and binged season 1 of elite in 2 days, thus proving to myself once again why it was a bad idea in the first place for me to get netflix. i dont even really remember what happens, apart from that spanish boys are hot (which i knew anyway) & im annoyed that the writers didn’t bother to ever really go into lucrecia’s character or motivations at all. like, she’s basically an arsehole like all the other pijos in the show, but we get to see WHY all the others act like arseholes. we get guzmán being all protective older brother & polo’s jealousy & ander’s lack of motivation for his tennis & even carla covering up for her rotten family. lucrecia is the only rich bitch who is literally a rich bitch just for the sake of it, and it makes the characterisation look really two-dimensional and tacky. hope they address this in season 2 (which i will definitely not be allowing myself to watch for at least another week)

-i left my good shampoo in france, and the only stuff i have at home has changed my entire curl pattern. its making it super wavy and flat on top, which im not here for given its actually a decent shampoo and shouldnt be treating me like this (one of those personalised function of beauty ones that i got a special offer on forever ago & am now trying to use up) (im on a massive using-up-products drive rn. this quarantine is the perfect opportunity for me to finally burn through all the half empty bottles of lotion ive been hoarding for 7 years but never use)

-yesterday i thought it was a good idea to go through my books and try and downsize to only a) books ive bought but havent read yet (there are more of these than i thought), b) books i need bc theyre useful or c) books that i want to reread or that have a lot of sentimental value for me. i should’ve been counting as i went along bc it would be more impressive. but suffice to say that its taken all day today and yesterday and im not done yet. next i would do my dvds, but ive left all my favourite films in the world in france (main reason why i got netflix). also i don’t think i can face sorting another thing just yet. suffice it also to say that i literally am using this time to do everything in the world except writing my diss.
