“Marry me.”

Soft, genuine smile hints at the edge of his lips, dimples pressing into a strong jawline peppered with stubble –  and it is a moment before eyes raise to meet hers that he questions truly if he is dead at all.  For, his heart feels as though it still beats, a ghost of something hollow in his chest; and dark hues find his beloved in fondness.  A hand dips to tilt her chin upwards, fingers caressing Sulpicia’s jaw gently - a feather touch but the tenderness there is overwhelming.

     ‘  I do believe those are my lines, darling.  ‘

Voice is deep but smooth - as he moves swiftly to press a kiss upon her lips - relishing in the warmth she offers him with such a simple embrace.  He was a devil - a demon to some, but this woman had seen his darkness and the red in his eyes - and loved him for it nonetheless.  To be damned for another.  He could have wept at the irony of such blissful delight.

She appears odd.  Peculiar and estranged from the evidence of human nature, which he has become familiar with in years past to mimic. sudden movements of muscles acting as reflexes - critical give-ins that she displays, yet somehow lacks.

And that is what piques his interest, an eccentricity amidst a Ball of political and obscure business.  Another creature to unravel in another night of clicking glass.

               ‘You appear rather bored, Signorina…?“

His voice tilts at the end, in query of a hint of her name as he lays reposed against the bar.
