@Regrann from @berning_media - Hit the nail right on the head @Regrann from @true.45 - Ben Carson has a history of comparing things to slavery, Democratic consultant Angela Rye recalled on CNN’s “AC360.” Today, Carson told his staff at the Department of Housing and Urban Development that slaves are “immigrants” who came here to “pursue prosperity and happiness.” “I think at some point we all have to be accountable for the extemporaneous words we use as well,” Rye said of Carson speaking off the cuff at the speech. “Ben Carson said black people worked for less. I have breaking news: we built this joint for free. We didn’t build it for less.” Cooper asked Rye if it was possible Carson was being sarcastic with his comment and Rye seemed insulted by the very concept. “Do you think it’s a good idea to be sarcastic about slavery?” she countered. Rye noted that just days ago she found out that she descended from a woman brought to the United States from Senegal as a slave. She explained that it was a humbling moment for her and she hoped Carson would refrain from trivializing such things. ____________________________________________________ #hillary #hillaryclinton #hillary2020 #notmypresident #trumpprotest #lockhimup #bencarson #womenforhillary #likeforlike #latinosforhillary #donaldtrump #imwithher #alternativefacts #tomperez #impeachtrump #corruptaf #nevertrump #kakistocracy #corrupt #crookedtrump #LGBTQ #imstillwithher #strongertogether #resist #kellyanneconway #angelarye #travelban #persist #blackgirlmagic @hillaryclinton

'Has anyone noticed the shocking extent to which the fossil fuel industry is trying to take over the public functions of government to directly target protesters? Pipeline company @Enbridge from Canada spent almost $10 million to buy off Minnesota police forces who ended up arresting hundreds of Indigenous peoples and other Water Protectors at Line 3 which is a company pipeline that crosses sacred Ojibwe Indigenous territory. Hundreds were charged with serious crimes even though they engaged in peaceful civil disobedience to help save our planet. I want to know who gave this industry the right to buy off cops that are supposed to protect the public, but who in Minnesota apparently have become more like Pinkerton private security guards controlled by a greedy company. I also find it stunning that a fossil fuel company is allowed to destroy the planet out of greed while those protesting this life-threatening conduct are charged with crimes. By the way, police are not the only supposed public institutions in the US being bought off by industry. So are elements of our judiciary. Chevron prosecuted and detained me via two of its private law firms (Gibson Dunn and Seward & Kissel) in the name of the US government after I helped Indigenous peoples win a major pollution case in Ecuador. That was after the regular federal prosecutor in New York rejected the contempt charges filed against me by a pro-industry federal judge. The Chevron prosecution targeting me, the first in the history of the United States, cost the company an estimated $10 million. In Canada, a judge in British Columbia recently granted a railroad the right to privately prosecute an Indigenous hereditary chief for "trespassing" on his own territory; that was after the regular prosecutor rejected the charges. These seemingly disparate events are all part of one dangerous trend involving the private co-optation of government functions to target Indigenous peoples who challenge the fossil fuel industry. In a society properly grounded in the rule of law, this type of corporate corruption of our public institutions would not happen. Understanding how these processes work is key
