do you think most of the cortexi-kids, now as adults obviously, could have PTSD and/or BPD? I have been diagnosed with both and after watching Fringe I'm definitely on board with headcanoning that
Short answer: YES.
Long answer: It is incredibly hard to generalize the other cortexikids... because they don’t nearly get as much screentime. I focus so much in my meta about Nick & Olivia specifically because a: they get the most screentime, & b: they’re naturally PAIRED together since the beginning of the trials.
I do think that every cortexikid has PTSD, to varying degrees. But BPD... is a much more harder to generalize.
James Heath [hey I can “exchange energy” with you & give you my cancer!!!] is specifically hard to place. When we’re first introduced to him... he’s incredibly destructive - destroying other lives for his own benefit [staying alive.] He has an incredible sense of self-perseverance, unlike Olivia & Nick. Everything that James does in Olivia. In The Lab. With The Revolver. is to keep himself from dying - all Nick [& Olivia passively] want to do IS DIE; they want their pain to STOP... whereas James inflicts pain on others so that his pain is combated.
Nancy Lewis is also incredibly hard to place. Like Olivia, like every cortexichild, she needs to be “activated” by an emotion in order to use her abilities. But unlike Nick & Olivia, her activating emotions aren’t toxic - but incredibly realistic. Nancy & Olivia are being held captive by Sanford Harris; Olivia helps Nancy channel her feelings of anger & desperation into pyrokinesis. But, Nancy couldn’t control her powers on her own; they were beginning to overwhelm her [& she would have combusted like her sister had.] Olivia NEEDED to step in & help guide her elsewhere. Olivia has lost control of her pyrokinesis many times - but only because she was triggered to the Extremes [... Walter & Belly... fake killed Nick... in order to elicit a reaction from her... & she nearly killed Nick... engulfing the room in flames... um] so guiding Nancy under these circumstances... was sort of a walk in the park. But Nancy’s abilities are considered “unstable” ... even though her state of mind is WAY more stable than Nick’s & Olivia’s. Perhaps having toxic emotions [aka actually being borderline] on a consistent basis are what make cortexiphan effective.
From what little we saw from Sally Clark... she doesn’t seem to be as sself-destructive / destructive as Nick & Olivia... but again... we barely saw anything. She successfully seriously burns Agent Lee, but because of medical advances Over There, he is able to recover.
So again, not incredibly sure any of them have abuse-induced BPD. But Nick & Olivia [to me!] do... & unfortunately, that’s what makes their powers so... powerful.
my fanficton life has been so depressing

season 6 super dream team
continued from these posts: [x] [x]
BECAUSE IN THE ALTVERSE FRINGE HAS WON MULTIPLE EMMYS & HAS FUNDING & STANDING LIKE YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE.
This season continues the story of our favorite family unit & the surviving Cortexichildren in a world of relative peace... until
Tatiana Maslany - staring as the new antagonist/s. Maslany appears as both versions of her character, operating as the main villain/s in the new season. Her doubles act as the heads of a Cortexichild sect continuing William Bell's vision. One was experimented on during the Jacksonville trials & developed Observer-esque teleportation powers; the other is a doctor specializing in Fringe science & helped to control her double's powers. What was written shall come to pass.
Ian Somerhalder - his OverHere!character acts as Maslany's second in command & love interest... to both versions of her. Because hey... it'd be cool to explore someone genuinely in love with two people that are the same, but are different... after Peter done goofed. & it wouldn't be treated in a LOL THREESOME THO~ way, but beautifully crafted... because it's Fringe.
David Call - he returns as Nick Lane. Nick will have to choose between Olive & those Cortexichildren rallying with her, or the other sect who adhere to all the old words. He failed Olivia once, choosing the "other" side over her - will he do it again? CAN he do it again?
Lee Pace - one of the Cortexichildren that chooses Olivia & the Fringe team over the agents of darkness. His powers lie in his eyebrows primarily in the telekinetic realm. What Pace says will literally come to pass, yet in order for his persuasion to work he must verbalize his commands. His stories he weaves are tricks to get other to do things for him do you see where we are going with this? [Hint: homage to Roy in The Fall.] His powers of persuasion can be compared to Nick's & could be tested... depending on what side Nick chooses. I can see him trying to hit on Astrid. Edit: yet @ the same time... if we really want to go hardcore with Roy & Roy elements, "there is no happy ending with me" resonates with Nick too so...
GO HARD OR GO HOME THIS WOULD BE TRULY LIVING THE DREAM
. . . in my comparative religion class i was both taking notes & making notes for a oneshot fic:
some lame season 5 fic with nick as a leader of the remaining [& perhaps new] cortexichildren aiding the resistance, covering his development with his abilities & possible actualization during the invasion & how he might treat etta in olivia's absence... especially how he might treat etta... i was choking up
i'm a person that tends to stay away from present tense & more screenwriting styles of writing... but i'm going to push myself... because it fits with nick's stream of consciousness that i want to develop
& i'm hoping to weave in ZFT-style writing [both from the show & dialogues i'll construct hopefully mirroring that style & nick's interpreations of the manifesto] thru the fic ... like nick reciting them to himself in his morning routine or to other recruits
i'm supposed to be doing the scpfringe thing... but i need to do this
also marcus if we're ever going to do that cortexikid series i need practice
so after a month of ??3lji5j4gk i'm writing again

Cortexichildren
Item #: SCP-1428
Object Class: Euclid
…
SCP-1428-2 is a white female of average height with blonde hair and hazel eyes. It refers to itself as “Olivia.” SCP-1428-2 is the stronger of the two humanoid hosts. Prior to its containment breach, SCP-1428-2’s known abilities were: abnormal acute hearing; the power to manipulate certain metals; and the ability to see different outcomes and potential futures. SCP-1428-2 has displayed pyrokinesis, advanced telekinesis, electricity manipulation, and enhanced speed. From Interview 1428-2-G, the Foundation has learned that SCP-1428-2 can see disturbances of [DATA REDACTED]. SCP-14282 sees these disturbances as a “glimmer” or “glimmering.”
After its encounter with SCP-682, SCP-682 deduced that SCP-1428-2 [and by extension, SCP-1428 and SCP-1428-1] is [DATA REDACTED]. However, immediately after this discovery, SCP-682 attempted to strike an alliance with SCP-1428-2 in hopes of escape. Task Force intervention was necessary. This “alliance” does not threaten the Foundation anymore after [DATA REDACTED].
SCP-1428-2 originally confessed that it lacks adequate control of its abilities, but its incidents with SCP-173 and SCP-682 make the Foundation believe otherwise. During its encounter with SCP-173, SCP-1428-2 matched SCP-173’s speed and in some instances, surpassed it. However the sustainability of this speed is debatable. And during its second encounter with SCP-682, SCP-1428-2 utilized its pyrokinesis in a controlled manner, forming a wall between the two subjects and preventing SCP-682 from attacking SCP-1428-1. SCP-1428-2 also, recognizing SCP-1428-1 was surrounding by agents and in heavy distressed, incinerated all █ agents, leaving only ash. SCP-1428-2, when it turned to SCP-682 again, was capable of forcing an organism much larger than itself repeatly into the metal barriers of SCP-682’s larger containment chamber, inflicting heavy damage on SCP-682. Concerned that the conflict between the two dangerous organisms would escalate beyond the Foundation’s control, the O5 staff dispatched O-23 agents who successfully recontained SCP-682 and secured SCP-1428-1 and SCP-1428-2.
So far SCP-1428-2 has been responsible for ██ Foundation deaths. Yet in spite of this statistic, SCP-1428-2 repeatedly expresses concern for the welfare of innocent people. During the event that led to its containment, SCP-1428-2 was seen trying to calm SCP-1428-1 down from its suicidal state. However, SCP-1428-2 failed, resulting in the deaths of those in the midst of an empathic event. During questioning sessions, SCP-1428-2 is always conscious of threats to innocent life. Prior to Interview-1428-2-G, the Foundation doubted whether this awareness was sincere and believed SCP-1428-2 was putting on a façade with aims of gaining the Foundation’s trust. In light of Interview-2-G, the ferocity SCP-1428-2 showcases for the welfare of SCP-1428-1 is not limited to SCP-1428-1 and other potential Cortexichildren. When the lives of innocents are threatened in any way, SCP-1428-2 becomes easily combative and violent to an unparalleled degree. These reactions point to O5-2’s hypothesis that SCP-1428-2 experiences heighted empathy in direct contrast to SCP-1428-1, but it still does not provide a firm foundation. Also, doctors and O5 staff alike do not agree on the origin of SCP-1428-2’s empathy. ^
^ : Because of their physical and emotional proximity, did SCP-1428-2 adapt to SCP-1428-1’s reverse empathy by developing heightened empathy and consciousness? Was it a reaction that was forced by [DATA REDACTED] to create a humanoid fail-safe capable balancing SCP-1428-1’s reverse-empathy? Or did SCP-1428-2’s empathy preexist, causing the two to be paired in the first place?
Note-04: In light of SCP-682 and SCP-1428-2’s latest… meeting, research has been halted. The Overseer Staff will meet to discuss alternatives and the future of SCP-1428.

Test Log T-98816-OC108/682
Cross-SCP Termination Testing for SCP-682
Due to the highly aggressive, adaptive, and intelligent nature of SCP-682, termination testing has been ordered, with clearance from O5 Command. With major concerns raised about possible developed immunities (due to the failure of SCP-409) and possible adaptations, all tests must first be carried out on tissue samples taken from SCP-682. This step may be bypassed only by O5 Command order.

Item: SCP-1428-1
Tissue Test Record:
N/A
Termination Test Record:
SCP-1428-1 introduced with SCP-1428-2 into SCP-682’s containment chamber. SCP-1428-2 ordered not to engage SCP-682 in any way; SCP-1428-2 is there only to ensure SCP-1428-1’s safe cooperation. SCP-1428-1 ordered to make an emotional bond with SCP-682. Overseer staff would have ordered SCP-1428-1 to spread its suicidal nature to SCP-682, resulting in self-termination. If the situation were to escalate, Task Force personnel were to carry out their directive, following Procedure 329-Laedo. And SCP-1428-2 ordered to use its telepathy to aide SCP-1428-1 terminate SCP-682.
SCP-1428-1 experiences a mental breakdown. Class C sedatives administered. However SCP-1428-1’s desperation has already spread to SCP-682. An already enraged SCP-682 becomes even more so, shattering the steel chamber holding it and expelling the hydrochloric acid within.
Test is a complete failure.

Tissue Test Record:

Termination Test Record:
SCP-1428-2 already been used to terminate SCP-682 with catastrophic events – SCP-682 offering a truce and hoping to establish cooperation between the two dangerous subjects. SCP-682 noted SCP-1428-2’s presence soon after introduction. Soon after, SCP-1428-2 becomes enraged, refusing to aid the Foundation in terminating SCP-682. Agents forced to stun SCP-1428-2 with [DATA REDACTED], incapacitating it.
SCP-682 breaches its containment chamber. SCP-1428-2 and SCP-682 converse, discussing their prior history and offer. SCP-682 does not enter its “rage” state with SCP-1428-2, but does not spare SCP-1428-1. SCP-682 moves to kill SCP-1428-1. SCP-1428-2 uses its pyrokinesis to block SCP-682’s attack, livid at SCP-682’s actions. The two entities exchange heated dialogue, with threats issued by both sides. Finally SCP-1428-2 uses its telepathy, smashing SCP-682 repeatedly into the walls of its greater chamber. SCP-682 sustains heavy damage, bleeding heavily from its many lacerations. SCP-1428-2 exerts enough force to remove 60% of SCP-682’s teeth, 90% of its epidermis, 60% of its dermis, and 40% of its muscle, with bone visible in these spots. SCP-1428-2 lowers SCP-682 down and readies for another attack. O5 staff order the “test” to cease immediately and dispatch Task Force personnel to secure SCP-1428-1 and SCP-1428-2 and contain SCP-682.
Notes: The difference in SCP-682’s nature toward each SCP-1428 host is significant. On both occasions when SCP-1428-2 was introduced to SCP-682, it did not slip into its “rage” state. And yet it was triggered to such disgust by SCP-1428-1’s presence, enough to destroy the relationship it had formed with SCP-1428-2. SCP-1428-2 exceeded all expectations against SCP-682, quite easily holding its own… although only for the amount of time observed. If the O5 had not intervened, it is unclear if SCP-1428-2 would have been able to hold the upper hand. SCP-682 has since been recontained and does not seem to show adaptations from the encounter.

“Oh? You again? And with someone else?”
Olivia’s hair on the back of her neck stood on end. It was talking to her. And the huge reptilian head encased in acid turned its gaze to her. She remembered what the Foundation had told her, and yet… she felt like it demanded a response back.
She was about to upon her mouth, she was about to engage, but something jarred her mute and left her breathless. One of the doctors brushed past her on his way to Nick. And she shuddered at the contact. And at the harsh jab to the back of Nick’s neck. And the cry that followed traveled up and down her spine making her wince.
“What is this?” The beast stirred in its acid again. And began to growl with growing menace. “What IS this fuckery? You’ve sent in more of your precious resources to kill me?” It laughed. “The human struggle is hopeless.”
Nick whimpered more at the sound of the beast. And Olivia still couldn’t breathe. It continued to lash against the Foundation. Brutally.
“You’ve kept me in captivity and achieved nothing, you sacks of petty flesh.” The growls continued to pound out of its cell, out of the acid. It bubbled viciously as the creature spoke, striking the pane with its jaw and its words. “You are mere asinine animals, the most repugnant of creatures. Your existence begs eradication and I crave it.”
No. This could not be happening. Olivia called their bluff. This was madness itself. She was not a Class-D personnel; she was a valuable scientific phenomenon. ‘They wouldn’t terminate me so easily, not unless they had to.’ Olivia’s eyes narrowed. She looked the SCP right in its jaw. “Let. Us. Go. I won’t go through with it. Get something or someone else to do your dirty work.”
“What did you say?”
Olivia breathed in deeply and turned around to glare at the speaker, to glare through the speaker to the coward on the other side. “You heard me. I’m tired of all this. Every single bit of it. I’m tired of your experiments. I’m tired of your methods. I’m tired of your entire fucking Foundation. You’re no better than the people who gave me this in the first place. You operate under the illusion that you’re doing what’s best for the world. What happens in here is disgusting. What happens in here isn’t necessary; it’s sick – all under the guise necessary. You’re not scientists; you’re monsters. You’re as much monsters as the things you contain. You’re disgusting. You’re-” Olivia was interrupted. Something was shot in her direction. It wasn’t a bullet. And it wasn’t gas. It was… it was pure electricity. And she didn’t see it coming and she hadn’t reflected it.
Olivia screamed as the energy soared through her, surged through her, slashed through her. It reminded her of Hendricks and his machine. It reminded her of the fear she had experienced – Nick had experienced. The Foundation was proving exactly what she had said.
“No.” Nick saw the electricity continue to flood into Olivia’s system. And he couldn’t do a thing. He was helpless to see her there, thrashing from the streams. Her knees buckled from under her and she fell to the floor. Convulsing. Violently. Eyes rolling and legs flailing. “No.” He was horrified. Horrified of the scene in front of him, of the pain Olivia was in, but also of himself. He was horrified how he could just stand there – watching her. He was horrified and disgusted at his own inaction.
No. Not again. This scene had repeated too many times before. It was his turn to protect Olivia. It was his turn to strike. He wasn’t going to be little Nick Lane waiting for something, dependent and helpless. He wasn’t going to be that Nick at all.
He turned to the beast before him and approached it. He saw the thing inside. It looked like the filth whispering to him from the shadows, cackling at him in the darkness. And it certainly spoke like the darker Nick, quick to maim with its words. Quick to describe others in terms of helplessness and hopelessness; quick to give into bloodlust and destruction. But he wasn’t scared of it. Not in this moment. Maybe in five minutes, he would be running for the exit, Olivia in his arms, but not now. Not in this moment. In this moment, he was calm. And the beast in front of him felt his pain. The beast in front of him continued to stir. And then began to violently thrash about, just like Olivia was on the floor.
It was furious. It was disgusted. The acid couldn’t contain it. The acid resembled more like water, sloshing about, utterly unable to suspend it there. It was nothing. And the metal and glass and any other substance Nick guessed made up the structure soon gave way. And the acid began to spill out. It didn’t reach the two of them, but it burned anything it touched with a roaring hiss. A scorching sizzle that would have killed a human with the faintest of drops.
