i'm nightblogging but...

it would've been cool if fringe tackled like... gender & sexual identities between universes

of course this is a fox show & of course i'm interested in these matters

but... yeah you're fundamentally the same person, but you've made other choices, you've thought about your life & this is how you differ

one of you presents themself differently - one of you embodies a different gender

it would be cool to see doubles not being this cis-only strict biology-only concept

why CAN'T your double be a different gender?

 & no, this is not the same as rule 63 genderbending - this is another you, or a multitude of yous, embodying different genders outside the binary

because hey... the altverse is a bit more progressive in a lot of aspects... who's to say that the binary is less of a thing over there?  that there's more strides toward gender equality & non-binary gender inclusion?  that there are recognized non-binary genders that are given respect & health care that's not governed by bullshit female-vagina male-penis lines?  because the altverse is so ahead of us when it comes to medicine... i am almost convinced that they'd be beyond the bullshit we have

& the same with sexuality

maybe you've met other people & you define yourself with this label as opposed to your other self who hasn't met those same people & defines themself another way

it'd be cool to see if sexuality is a constant across universes

for some people yeah of course

but for others... it might be a way you differ

maybe literally everything else is the same: your job, your hair, your clothes, the way you take your tea, the color of your sheets, the way your furniture is arranged in your house

but one of you is queer & the other is not

because again i have a feeling it might be a lot more inclusive in the altverse - or in a multitude of other altverses given different political climates that allow you to "discover" yourself or just... have more freedoms

& hell because of negative relationships one of you is less likely to embrace that queer identity & has internalized a lot of shame & feels the pressure to stifle that self & reform that self - for a variety of reasons

because holy shit do relationships have an effect on mental health - & that's fucking shown in canon

BY NOT HAVING PETER IN WALTER'S LIFE HE IS FUCKING HOLY FUCK
