cosmic voids (also known as dark space) are vast spaces between filaments (the largest-scale structures in the universe), which contain very few galaxies or matter.

there is a common misconception that voids are COMPLETELY empty, but the fact of the matter (haha, get it?) is that:

"the actual matter content of the voids is not clear, and there can be a lot of matter, which is invisible or almost invisible for the observers. first, the voids may contain a lot of dwarf or dim galaxies and some rarefied gas. secondly, there can be a large amount of dark matter."

"although even the emptiest regions of voids contain more than ~15% of the average matter density of the universe, the voids look almost empty to an observer."

an incredible example of the above is that our very own milky way galaxy exists within a cosmic void that is named the "KBC void" or "local hole" - the milky way galaxy is a few hundred million light-years away from the void's center.

dark energy - a proposed form of energy that drives the accelerating expansion of the universe in which the existence of voids is said to have an impact

dark matter - an invisible and hypothetical form of matter that does not interact with light or other electromagnetic radiation; said to exist within galactic filaments and in cosmic voids but at a much lower density

galactic filaments - largest known structures in the universe, consisting of walls of galactic superclusters

neutrinos - tiny, subatomic particles that move freely in and out of the void; strongly suspected to be components of dark matter

new research has shown that time moves about 35% faster within a void because of their weak gravitational force, suggesting that the universe is not expanding equally as it was previously theorized, and potentially debunking the existence of dark energy all together.

cosmic voids may not be completely empty as they are hypothesized to contain low frequency radiation, low density dark matter, and a minimal number of dim galaxies, but are empty enough to be unperceivable in many cases. the void acts as a cosmic liminal space between the gaps padding the threads that compose our universe.

Empty cosmonaut – in a zone of silence

It is opening a hatchway. It is sound of some hiss. And it is opening a helmet of cosmonaut. And there - it is empty. There are black darkness there. Just like it is space itself. This is the space. Black. Space is empty. It is full of stones.

It is filled with darkness of moons. And cosmonaut too long was in space. He becomes empty. He filled with emptiness. Unusual effect a too long presence in space. Effect of emptiness. Space matter. You do not belong to space. And that’s why it will make you empty. Maybe this kind of story can have this cosmonaut.

White empty corridor. Light blue. Everything is sterile. And emptiness of around room. Not Earth kind. But it is not space. This is emptiness of space station.

Wires are like ribbons they are waving with zero gravity. They need to be connected to some place. But they are like beautiful ribbons are just waving in the space of the room. Just like with the wind. But there is no wind here. Silence. Dead silence. Sterile silence. Absolute silence. Space silence. Cosmonaut find out himself in a silence. Zone of silence. Endless empty space.

Well of course it has some limits. But not with the human scale. For cosmonaut it is almost endless. With small chance to left it. With the aim not to become empty.
