Both Grace and Simon are stray dogs.
Grace knows and misses the warmth of a home. Simon has never felt the comfort of living peacefully, but wishes for something like it.
Grace runs away from anything violent or incredibly risky, flees from harm, takes the cowards way out when things don’t want to be friendly with him. He tries to find a middle ground with others, tries to make peace with things. Simon fights and bites for scraps of food and shelter, growling at and chasing anything away from him in order to survive. There is no such thing as friendly in his world, just creatures trying to manipulate and destroy each other.
Grace uses his brain to figure things out, trying to cause the least trouble for everyone. He learns more about how the outside world works and uses that in his favour. Simon attacks his problems first before they can attack him, everything has the ability to harm after all. He lives in fear for what would happen if he chose peace first again.
Grace finds a friend. Simon continues to run away from his past.
