I was actually talking to my mum about this and apparently very early on in my reading journey I had a deep obsession with Catwings by Ursula K. Le Guin!

Such a good little book if you don't know it.

My early love for animals and strange creatures and science fiction rlly came though for me in life

i started reading twisted games by ana huang because it was giving my thorjane bodyguard au + i saw an insta reel that said chris and his wife in their met gala look were like the protagonists of this book

it's great so far. i'm loving bridget's character, she's so sweet.

This ask game

1. What is the book you've re read the most

Ok I'm giving you a book rec I'm realizing Linds if you've read this book we need to CHAT and if you haven't you've GOTTA you would love it so much it has everything you crave in books.

I think it's actually I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson. There's just something about that book I keep coming back to. The way it explored grief and autonomy and complex family relationships and queerness was something I really, really needed the first time I read it at 14.

It's about two twins who lose their mother and how that loss drives a wedge in their family. There's two timelines, one where the twins are close and in another where they're not even speaking. It's about how a person who is literally a part of you can still betray you and how forgiveness takes time. I love this book so so much, Jandy Nelson is probably the only YA author I feel really understands how to write for both a young adult audience and an adult one.

I've re read it every few years ever since and I always walk away with a new lesson and outlook on life. Here are some of my favorites quotes screen shotted from good reads because I am lazy and it's my birthday so I can be lazy!

4. What part of the bookstore do you browse?

I have a system. First I go to science fiction & fantasy because I'm always looking for certain authors. I pick up any philp k dick and asamov I don't have, and any old Robin hobb covers too.

Then I go to classics, look at all the really fancy copies etc. I am Desperately looking for a nice copy of East of Eden right now and have been largely unsuccessful.

THEN I go to the general fiction section and Lose My Mind there scrambling for whatever I want until I literally cannot hold any more books in my hands and if it's a used bookstore I will buy many but if it's box store I will probably only buy 1

BUT

If it's Mr [redacted for Internet safety]'s book shop I will talk with him about medieval Arthurian stories for at least half an hour and if it's [redacted for Internet safety] bookshop we always end up gossiping and laughing and catching up for awhile and she gives me discounts so I buy many many books there.

Twisted Games- Little Bird

Geralt Rivia has no allegiance and no moral compass. Whoever hires his services is well aware of that, and not once has he failed a hit on someone. He works alone, takes the money, and disappears like a ghost. His specialty is vanishing, and no one has ever gotten in his way or caught him and lived to tell the tale.

The music from the crowded club thrums through the air, pulsating in the damp and humid room as countless bodies move against each other. The humid air only makes the smell of sweat and alcohol cling to the air, making the haze among the dance floor heavy as Geralt moves among the edge. Though he isn’t fond of the atmosphere- too loud, too many bodies and drunken attention that he can’t help but feel tense and ready to get out as fast as possible. His amber eyes scan the crowd, women and men nothing but drunken messes as they move against each other in the heat and dampness. He slowly moves through the crowd, expertly brushing against the target and managing to slip the toxin into the man’s drink, maintaining the nonchalant expression as he continues past him towards the exit. It doesn’t take too long before he releases a breath, finally in the slightly cooler air near the entrance of the club. There’s no concern about being discovered- it's a simple drug, untraceable and will make it look as though he died in his sleep by his own design- but it is much easier than getting his hands bloody in front of witnesses.

Oh.

There’s a woman hovering near the door, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed, as if trying to make her small frame appear even smaller. Clearly not security. Almost... lost. A little mouse in an open field of prey- at least by his own guess, she looks far from comfortable with the atmosphere and crowd behind him. They make eye contact, and for once Geralt pauses.

No one ever sees him.

Before he can react a couple of large men stumble closer to her, making her body tense as their cups spill from their efforts to lean even closer to her, trying to touch her despite her trying to pull away from them. Geralt feels his brow furrow as he watches the woman try to step away, only trapping herself between the men and the wall, and before he can register his movements he’s approaching to tug the men away-

Suddenly the woman moves, swinging a clean punch directly into his nose, making the man yell and stumble back, his drink spilling over his hand. The friend moves to catch him, only spilling more beer on his friend before they stumble away muttering. Geralt can’t help but smirk, admiring the carnage as the woman calmly straightens her shirt, glancing around quickly. She once again makes eye contact with Geralt and seems to still, almost looking embarrassed at being caught.

Before he can stop himself he moves closer, unable to help the surprise despite keeping his appearance calm. Normally he stays under the radar, a ghost in plain sight, and the fact that someone noticed him and wasn’t immediately avoiding him...

“You ok?” He asks gruffly, the kind gesture feeling foreign on his tongue as his hands shove into his pockets. He glances over to where the men disappeared, noting they seem to be with his target, but he simply refocuses his amber eyes onto her.

She nods slowly, seemingly more embarassed as she shifts on her feet. “Yeah, I’m fine. Sorry, I didn’t think anyone would notice.” She laughs slightly, seeming just as thrown as he is.

“I do.” He hums, taking a moment to take in her appearance and how she seems to glance around worriedly- not afraid like he’s used to.”You’re uncomfortable. You need someone to walk with you?”

The woman blinks, glancing at him and staring for a long moment before she speaks. “Why would you offer to help me?”

Geralt hums, lips quirking almost to a smirk- almost. “I didn’t think you’d notice the men watching us where those idiots went.”

The woman hums, not looking away from him as she smirks. “I do.”

Geralt hums out a noise, the closest to a chuckle he’s had in a long time. “Let’s get a coffee. You and I have a lot to discuss, little bird.”

...

“Damn it,” Steve curses, the unexpected reaction making both August and Lloyd look over as their boss drops his phone onto the mahogany desk. “He got another one. Dead in his sleep, but suspected overdose.”

August runs a hand over his mouth, eyes hard as they stare off at nothing. “That leaves us with two more possibilities.”

“The second we find that fucker, he’s getting a clean one.” Lloyd hums, still cleaning his gun with a rehearsed calmness.

“That’s new for you.” Steve hums, leaning back in his chair while his finger taps at the table.

“You’d be pissed if I made too much of a mess.” Lloyd hums, glancing at him briefly. “A bit of a shame, really. I’d <i>love</i> to get my hands on him...”

“No.” Steve sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose for a moment. “And no killing. The White Wolf doesn’t pick sides, just takes jobs. We at least know that.” He moves again, leveling them both with a look. “Just bring him in. We need to have a talk.”
