Dear Friends and Family, you may or may not know 25 years ago our daughter Alison was born with a rare genetic kidney disease. She was a miracle because at birth they told us she could be stillborn. At age six it was determined that she would need a kidney and liver transplant because the disease had now affected her liver. After searching the country for the best transplant center and surgeon we moved our family to Miami. She had multiple complications, 5 months in the ICU but was given the gift of life of a liver and kidney that has given her 19 years. Transplantation as we were told early on is never a cure but a treatment that may not last a lifetime. For the last few years Alison’s transplanted liver and kidney has been failing. Today Alison’s doctors in Miami have decided the time has come to list her for another transplant. Because of all the complications she has encountered the doctors feel it is a multivisceral and kidney transplant that would be the only option. This would mean she needs a liver, stomach, pancreas, intestine, bowel and kidney. We are extremely grateful the doctors are giving Alison this option. This is actually a surgery that this transplant center and surgeon has done close to 300 times successfully. Alison has made the final decision and she wants to live. Our family is asking for your support and prayers. We have begun working with the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) again. We partnered with COTA 19 years ago and raised over $150,000 for COTA in Alison’s honor; however, we have reached the point where we will need to fundraise again. Luckily Alison’s partnership with COTA is for a lifetime, and 100% of funds raised assist with transplant-related expenses. Please consider donating to COTA in honor of Alison and share this post with your friends and family.
