NY Steak & Truffle Fries, Southern Seafood Chowder, Tahitian Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee. Cotton Row. Huntsville, Alabama. 10.17.2018.

The tomato base of the chowder threw me off a little, but it was chock full of good meat. A New York strip is not my favorite cut, and because I was with a large party, the fries sat for too long and weren’t hot by the time I got them. The creme brulee was stupid good.

I met Bryan in Huntsville, where we’re going to shoot a video tomorrow to get ready for Summit. Jerry McCarley, who runs our Huntsville office, drove us around town to look at current Garver projects, then we went to dinner at Cotton Row downtown. I like downtown Huntsville. And I especially like the dessert at Cotton Row.

Surf & Turf Special w/Lump Crab, “Coffee & Donuts.” Cotton Row. Huntsville, Alabama. 8.8.2018.

Menu Description: I don’t have one for the entree, but for dessert:  chocolate espresso pot de crème and vanilla donut holes

The steak was a smidge tough, but the scallops melted in my mouth. The real gem of this meal was the pot de creme. The donut holes were sugary and delicious, but nearly put me into a diabetic coma after two. That pot de creme–sweet baby Jesus!–was the perfect mixture of espresso and chocolate. I want to finish every meal with one. It was like a soft, espresso fudge made in heaven. It could be this is what inspired Lynyrd Skynyrd to write “Sweet Home Alabama.”

Cotton Row with Buff
