CSLB Artist Spotlight: couldnthandleit
Today’s featured Captain Swan Little Bang artist is @couldnthandleit!
How long have you been making artwork for the OUAT fandom? What sorts of artwork (original or fan art) did you make before joining the OUAT fandom?
I've been making artwork for the list fandom since the start of 5b. I learned to gif in at the worst possible moment, with the damn red filter for the Underworld lol. Before that I did some edits for a Harry Potter rpg of the Marauders era I had with a few friends like ten+ years ago? And some Manipal as well. Then more actively and recently I created a few fan videos for the webseries The Lizzie Bennet Diaries on 2013, and I kinda miss it but it's a lot of work and I don't have the time.
What sort of artwork do you like to make, either in terms of style, medium, or subject matter?
Like I said, I loved creating videos. Hearing a song and it reminding me of a character or a ship, seeing the images forming in my head to go along with it. It always fascinated me whenever I saw gifs on Tumblr, and when I finally decided to try my hand at it I discovered that it was fun. I greatly enjoy making gifs, discovering parallels, or linking a scene/pairing to a quote or song. I just love it.
Whose your favorite subject for artwork: Emma or Killian? Or do you prefer both together? Why?
I literally cannot choose, they are both too precious to me. Emma is my girl, I identify with her a lot in the earlier seasons, with miles high walls, but fiercely protective of her loved ones and slowly opening up to love. I admire her so much for how far she's come. I still struggle with showing my emotions and opening up to others, but I'm working on it. And Killian has gone through so much development. He started off as a villain who only cared about himself and his revenge, but he slowly came around and started to change. And not only for Emma but for himself. He saw what kind of man he was before and decided to actively become a man who could be called a hero, even when the others saw it way before he did.
If you participated in the 2016 Big or Little Bangs, or the 2017 Big Bang, what was the experience like for you? What are you looking forward to this time around?
It was something completely different to what I had been doing til then. I had to look for movies or shows with dragons in it, and find some that matched the description Cee gave of Killian's dragon form in A Wing and a Prayer and match it with images I could use of Emma wearing EF clothing. And the nightmare it was to add the fire to the Camelot kiss, oh boy! But it was so rewarding. I didn't know if it was going to turn up alright or was going to look all crappy, but I was very satisfied with it. I am looking forward to meet new people and getting back to giffing, since I haven't had much time lately and I lacked the motivation. It would be nice to do something different, but I'm really not picky right now. I am open to mostly everything, really.
Featured Artwork: A Wing and a Prayer gifset
I think I answered this already when I talked about my experience with the CSBB lol but I'm gonna add I especially love the two gifsets showing the stargazing scene. The amount of research I did to find a constellation that matched Cygnus and the way Cee had described their positions in the sky is ridiculous. In fact I had both Cee and Ellie (my fellow artist for A Wing and a Prayer) helping me with that. And then how I completely changed the colours in the scene where Emma is about to interrupt her parents' meeting in the past, so it looked like it was actually nighttime, I'm very proud of how it turned out.
