Generally, the Enterprise was a ship for science and exploration, but occasionally they had to be assigned to other things, like planetary emergencies.
This time it was an earthquake and they happened to be the closest ship to that planet, being able to be there within eight hours, while additional help were three days away.
Nat was on a quick break, fetching another cup of coffee, when he bumped into Rou. “Hi, how’s it going?” He knew she had just as much to do as him during these kind of situation. Erik may not know what’s going on, but that is never a phrase that ends in anything good.
“Who?” he demands. “And why?”
“Have you been eating enough?”

Things like eating and drinking tended to fall by the wayside. But he was tired and his mouth was dry. Probably time to take a break for a little bit.
