A Day With Michael Wax at Beber’s Office
My name is Joseph Appert and this will be my third summer on staff. I’m very excited to be Beber’s Waterski Director for Summer 2015. Originally from France, I am currently studying in the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University. I had the opportunity last Friday to leave my current home of New Orleans in order to spend an entire day in Chicago with the one and only Michael Wax.
After arriving early in the morning, Michael picked me up at the airport to drive immediately to the Beber office in Skokie, IL. I had never seen the business building where Beber moved last September. Once inside, I first saw a large aerial view of camp hanging on the wall and many posters, pictures and some Beber shirts spread out around the room. The atmosphere is welcoming and familiar. I feel like I am already at camp!
However, in addition to looking comfortable and cozy, it also looks very professional. The office balanced both the evidence of hard-work and creativity being put in on a daily basis.
Michael began the day by giving me a quick tour. Then, we sat in the conference room to discuss the summer ahead. We touched on programming, planning, staff training, goals, challenges, waterskiing, and of course, fun!
Five hours of work and a lunch later, Michael drove me back to the airport. It was a very productive day that made me even more prepared and more excited than I already was to start my new job. In one month, I will be back at O’Hare airport. This time, I’m headed straight to Mukwonago for what I am convinced will be another amazing summer on the shores of Lake Beulah. I think of it everyday, and now camp is just around the corner!
I would like to thank Michael for having me in Chicago for a day and I am looking forward to seeing all of you in a couple of months.
