Say that you're counting the number of days you've been alive. Does the day of your birth count as 1 or 0? If you go by calendar days, then yes, your birthdate is first and the following day is the second, but that feels like it goes against the spirit of the question. A baby born at 11:59pm is not two days old after being alive for 60 seconds. I say that your birth counts as T-0 and you're only a day old after 24 hours have passed (I'd relax the definition to say that once you pass midnight, it counts as a new day; for the 11:59 baby, I'd say they're a day old after sunrise, around noon-ish)
