Counting Magpies, an old nursery rhyme
I mostly post OurLife but I do enjoy posting about my space OCs
Magpies
One lonely bird brings sadness,
But a second one brings cheer,
Three and four will tell you,
Of your future child dear.
Five and six bring precious metals,
And other riches you can hold,
While seven whispers warnings
Of a secret better left untold.
Eight will grant you something
You’ve wanted from the start.
And nine helps you show affection,
To the one that holds your heart.
Ten is of importance,
Don’t let it leave your gaze.
Eleven promises good health to you
For the remainder of your days.
Twelve brings happiness and fortune,
Of this there is no doubt,
But should you count to thirteen…
Your luck has just run out.
Magpie Song / Counting Magpies
I’ve also heard of people counting crows with similar lyrics but I’ve grown up with it being magpies, a local folk way of divination using how many maggies you see in a charm of them
Counting magpies 🐦⬛🪙
One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret never to be told
Eight for a wish
Nine for a kiss
Ten for something you should not miss
This rhyme has been used for counting magpies, crows, and other winged friends. I personally grew up using it to count magpies!
BRITISH FOLLOWERS! what do you say when you see a singular magpie?

My mum was diagnosed with cancer in March 2005. The seasonal flower around Easter is the daffodil, consequently in the hospital she received a lot of beautiful vibrant…
