Roscommon Castle was attacked and burned several times before its final build in the mid-to-late 13th century. Built in the style of contemporary royal castles at the time, this National Monument saw many occupations over the centuries. It was finally dismantled in 1652 after the Confederate Catholics surrendered to the Cromwellians. Its ruins are what is left after being burned down in 1690. @roscommonheritagenewsandinfo @roscommongaa @roscommonsolstice @visitroscommon @abbey_hotel_roscommon @roscommonheritagegroup #roscommon #roscommoncastle #roscommonireland #roscommonirish #countyroscommon #countyroscomáin #coroscommon #roscomáin #oghamart #irishcastles #irishcastle (at Roscommon Castle, Loughnenane Park, Co Roscommon.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGXIhozAUjz/?igshid=54sa90iv7hv2
