Quite the story behind this painting. When I lived and worked in Ireland in 2013 the village of Terryglass was nothing less than a new unexpected family in my life. A family there had acquired an amazing estate that once belong to J Paul Getty. On the grounds was a beautiful cottage with a lovely sunroom they allowed me to come visit in order to get away and paint from time to time. Well, as some of you know, in the course of me staying there we were attacked on the grounds of Slevoir, the house I was overseeing while I was there, by a group of thugs trying to push us off the land. Then later, as tragic as this is, the man that hired me turned out to be just as bad as the thugs and evicted my daughter and me. This painting is actually prophetic in a sense because when I started it I simply entitled it "Sanctuary". How little did I know that the village of Terryglass and the families that were there would truly become a sanctuary for my daughter and I when our lives and our well-being were threatened. The room that is portrayed here is part of the sunroom where I worked, and all the little birds are actually native to Ireland and never migrate. There are 17 little birds.... see if you can find all of them. My heart has led me to send the original of this painting back to Ireland to be housed in the estate of the family that gave me the sanctuary to go to to paint when I was there. I am forever grateful to all of the unexpected family in Ireland who loved and cared for Julie and me... 💚☘🌈 #BirdsOfIreland #TerryGlass #CountyTipp #CountyTipperary #Sanctuary (at Tami Curtis)
