About a month ago, my good friend asked me if I would want to go with him to Colorado to pick up a car he was going to buy. The plan was to arrive in Denver, get picked up by the guy who was selling us the car, go on a canyon run with him and a few other M Coupe enthusiasts and then we would drive to SoCal. We arrived as planned, checked out the car and my friend handed me the keys so he could catch some shots of the other cars while we hit the canyons. What a God damned honor. I couldn’t be thankful enough. I wouldn’t be able to do justice in describing my feelings while driving the M Coupe with the group of local enthusiasts, but to say the least, it was fucking awesome. The car was so sorted. It begged me to push it harder and harder and it would just grip like a motherfucker. It gave me plenty of time to correct when it did step out and it carried enough momentum to keep up with the boosted and other s54 powered coupe in front of me. Truthfully, it felt like a love child between an E36 M3 and the Honda S2000, if anybody was able to imagine. The balance was phenomenal. It had the raw connected feeling that the S2000 has with sharp responsive handling, but the stability, grunt and roadtrip comfort of the E36 M3.
It was a hell of a trip to say the least. 17 hours straight. One of us would nap and we’d switch tank for tank. We drove through mountains, plains and desert. Snow, rain and high winds. The oil temps were dropping like crazy through the last of the passes in Colorado,so. We were pegged at the upper part of the power band to keep things warm. The throttle linkage separated from the pedal assembly right before getting into Utah on a freeway on ramp, so we MacGyver’d a quick fix that would get us home.
This was an experience I had to write briefly about and I don’t write personal things on here enough as it is, so there is that. Back to one liners on reblogs I guess, til the next time.
