Lizard interviews XAbruptX
XAbruptX is a killer fastcore two piece from Chicago! If you havent already,Check them out! Had a chance to talk to Elisa and Robert for a bit..Enjoy the interview and support the band!!!
Sup guys? Lets start with a brief history of the band!
We started when both our previous projects comprised of a common member dissolved. We started jamming and a few months later started dating each other. Elisa and I have known and been good friends with each other for 12 plus years. It's sorta like shit just fell into place.
Have you ever thought of working a bassist into your sound?
We've thought about it a lot and both agree that just the two of us is the best formula for the band. Less gear, fewer schedules to align, and since we're a couple and have always been a two piece the whole idea is a bit strange since it feels like it would change what XAbruptX is to us. We may be taking turns tracking bass on our future releases.
What other projects have u guys played in?
Robert:ex drums in STUCKINARUT (in), ex guitar in: Massive Bastard, Hiveswarmer Current drums in: GODSASS Elisa: global genocide (all girl punk band), Godsass, and for a short period of time I started Muerta.
Tell us about the releases you have out now and soon to be out.
We don't have much out right now. I think a copy or two of the split with Canadian grinders Tenchu (since defunct) and our split 7" with PowerXChuck and Paralyzed Society should be in our hands early 2017. We also got a split with Antagonizer to record in early 2017 and are gonna try to pump out as much music as possible.
What are your songs about?
Marijuana, hating capitalism, and smoking pigs.
Did plutocracy have a direct effect on your sound?
Pluto had a major effect on our sound and lyric content/political drive in our music. We've really strived to pay homage to those masters of their craft along with incorporating our own tales on grindcore and powerviolence.
Who are some of the bands you got to play with?
We've played with a lot of different types of bands ranging from sludge to grind to thrash metal. We were very honored to play amongst some of our long time favorite bands such as Lycanthophy, Despise You, Supression, Pizza Highfive, Sete Star Sept,... We got to play with a lot of kick ass locals and out of state bands such as Sick/Tired, Gnarly Death, Sea of shit, Paucities, Self Hate, Flux Capacitor, MWA, Happy Pill Trauma, Concussive, Six Brew Bantha, David Carradine, Nuklear Hellfrost, Hemdale, and so many more.
What is the craziest shit you have seen at a show?
So, we played a venue here in Chicago called "township" when DESPISE YOU came through with CREATOR/DESTOYER in 2015. A group of oogle junkie kids came to the show. Argued cover at the door of course and were fucking doped out in the crowd the whole night until the incident. One of the oogle girls were accosting our friends and wouldnt stop. Our homie Jack (goatfucker)was trying to ward her off without becoming physical with the girl, protecting his girlfriend. When the oogle girl started hitting him closed fist repeatedly. At that moment our good friend Magda (6 foot 3 polish girl) comes up and wrecks the girl. As they get separated and friends are calming Maggi down the girl decides to spit in her face. As if it hadn't gone far enough. Maggi breaks free of our friends restraining her and rips dreadlocks from the girls head proceeding to dangle it in front of her. The girl was bleeding everywhere from her face and head. The bar staff proceeded to kick every one of the junkie kids out and never spoke a word to Maggi about what had transpired. They had a dude come and mop up the blood between bands. Despise you killed it.
Any live shows coming up?
As of now we only have 2 shows coming up. We are trying to focus more on song writing so we're taking a small break but the next shows are December 14th at the Subterranean in Chicago and Summer Grind fest next year May in California.Summer Grind fest is gonna be insane!!
Summer GrindFest is definitely going to be sick!!!Im gonna try and make it out!! Which bands are you guys dying to see/play with?
Really fuckin stoked to see Death Toll 80k. And let's face it, Most of the locals on that bill are some of raddest shit around right now especially.. Fiend. Our versus set with Happy Pill Trauma is also sure to be fun.
Whats up with the x's in your name? Some people confuse that with straight edge..have you ever had any shit over it? I know a bunch of bands do it to fuck with straight edge bands too.
It's definitely not to fuck with the edge kids. I've had and still have many straight edge friends and respect the shit out of the lifestyle. The reason for our x's is actually multiple reasons. When we started we were playing straight fastcore. And felt it gave an image to the name that hxc was highly represented in the music. The other side of the reason is our name. When you name your band a single word like abrupt. There's a good chance there's other bands out there with the same name. The x's seperate us from them. We don't really don't get shit about it. I don't think anyone has asked us if we were edge before.. haha.
Guilty pleasures as far as music goes?
Depeche Mode, WEEN (elisa hates ween), Interpol, against me!, third eye blind (Robert), men at work, the cardigans, 90's music in general for Robert, TOTO, s.o.a.d. And that's all we're copping to...haha!
Shout outs or Fuck offs?
Hahahaha. Um shout out to every label involved in our splits. To Frank from Pluto, Nick Capote for letting us put his face in the axis of our side of the split and generally being an awesome friend. Adam Jennings Ben Gonzalez and Robbie, Josh, Mike and Aaron from SOS. Jack goatfucker and everyone who's ever supported us or talked shit on us.
