“ There’s a leaf in your hair. ” she remarks with a ringing laugh, and reaches to pluck nature’s infiltrator from his bangs. “ I can’t help but think you’re better at rolling around than walking by now. ”
“ i suppose we were too busy surviving. ”

“ Too busy surviving. ” she repeats, softer. “ Tell me--- do you feel robbed? ”
She speaks with painful sobriety & eyes that flicker like dying candles.
“ I do. ”
Zelda has long since decided that duty is a thief, plucking trust and love and innocence from a child’s weak hands, hands that are roughly bound behind a struggling back as time passes. Her childhood should have been peaceful, but its ruin was her own fault. Link’s childhood should have been peaceful, and for that she cannot forgive herself.
She turns her head as the fire in her fades out. Lips pull into a smile, a beacon to burn through their desolate thoughts. She takes both his hands in hers, rubbing her thumb gently over his knuckles ( it is something her mother once did for her ), and offers absolution.
“ But we’ve done it. ” She is tentative; her grip tightens. “ We’ve survived; you’re a hero, and you’re free now. ”
“ Follow your heart to fulfill your dreams; I’m confident that you’ll find happiness, Link. ”
( @couragedestined ) approached.
She gazes for a moment, blue hues examining the stranger before her. His green garments looked oddly familiar to the female, mimicking those of her own. Leather gloved hands raised to rest on her hips, a starstruck look across her face.
“ You look an awful lot like the Hero of Time.. like the one told from the past. ”
❛ whatever happened to her – the fairy ? ❜
if there was an onlooker, they might have pitied zelda’s young companion – questions about him, who he was, how he lived, had gone unasked in the face of potential tyranny, focus instead placed on how to expose the gerudo king for the monster he was ( the blindness of her father! to that day, zelda marveled at it. ) – but ganondorf was imprisoned, his treasonous desires revealed. link was a hero, to no-one moreso than her, & free to come & go as he pleased within the castle. with this, zelda was delighted – every opportunity to spend time with link was seized, not in the least because of how devoid her life had been of companionship before he had arrived. oh, impa was always there, of course, but regardless of their closeness, impa was still her guardian. there was no-one else at the hylian court even remotely close to her in age. to spend time with someone like her, in all respects, was… well, for lack of a better word, bliss.
link may not have felt the same way – zelda hadn’t noticed. she was too busy bombarding him with questions, her curiosity about his life in the forest utterly insatiable. the topic of his friends had been thoroughly exhausted, it had seemed, until the young girl’s memory had sparked. how could she have forgotten?
for much of their conversation, the princess had been lying down, comfortable upon the grass in the courtyard ( their courtyard, she had begun to call it, though she wouldn’t realize unless it was pointed out to her ) – at the thought of the once-mentioned fairy, she had quickly sat upright, legs crossed, eyes bright & questioning. hadn’t link told her of his companion, from forest, to field, to castle?
❛ did she go back home? ❜ her tone became shy, head bowing, but the princess was only playing coy, excitement building within the pit of her stomach – the very idea of seeing a fairy! ❛ i was hoping you could introduce me to her, if she agreed. ❜

❛ what is a legacy? it’s planting seeds in a garden you will never see. ❜

how can she respond to that ?though her lips curl upwards into the smallest of smiles, her eyes are dark& filled with sadness, regret, guilt. she knows that so much has been askedof him these last seven years ( that she has asked so much of him ) & thatcompared to what he has seen, the beasts he has slain, truly, this is nothing –this, she thought, would be a kindness. now, she is not so sure. he will haveanother legacy, she knows, returning to his own time, shaping a hyruleunspoiled by tyranny, by war, but it will not be the same; he will not be thesame. the hero of time will fade from memory eventually, from man, to myth, tolegend, but the process might not be so quick if he were to stay with them, tohelp her people once again.
the road ahead, she knows, willbe long & arduous. there is so much to do, in terms of rebuilding. the lastfollowers of ganondorf, those monstrous stragglers, will need to be slain;peace must be brokered between all people of the land, gerudo included; &then, of course, there is the castle & town, reduced to naught but rubble, calling out to be restored. if link were by her side, as she faced down thesetasks… the temptation is almost overwhelming.
for a brief moment, she wishesshe were fool enough to let him stay.
❛ not always, ❜ she respondssoftly, turning the ocarina over in her hands. ❛ some legacies, we see unfoldbefore our eyes. people will remember how you restored peace to us here, but inyour own time, they will love you for saving them from all of this horror. ❜ she will not voice her own regret, that she could not be the one to save himfrom such tribulations, but as she raises her eyes to look at him, she thinks (she imagines ) that he knows.
❛ but i will be here, tocultivate that garden. ❜ another smile, somehow sadder than the last – the timeof their parting is drawing near. ❛ no-one will ever forget you, link. i swearby the goddesses, i will make sure of that. ❜

🙋 + anything about link's house in ordon village
Send “🙋” + any headcanons you want to know about my muse.
Link’s basement has only old dusty pans and some bottles. There’s also a chest with fifty rupees in it -- yipee! -- which can be assumed to be his savings. And there’s that mysterious mirror down there. Even though Link’s face remains neutral, his expression always wears a scowl, no matter what. There’s something definitely weird about it -- no wonder he keeps it in his basement.
In his house, near his little kitchenette area, he has mostly rustic wooden bowls, cups, and plates, as well as some jars of preserves, and extra firewood. He’s also got a little sink and a special small stove for heating up water. Above the sink are some really nice ceramic plates, definitely too nice for just any old meal. They were probably for festivals and celebrations.
According to his big stove, he makes a lot of soup. No wonder he likes Yeto’s so much -- it’s his favorite meal!
His table only has room for one, which makes sense, becaue he lives alone. He also has a ketle and a cup -- he likes to drink herbal teas. He has a few books, probably of maps or drawings, and he has a little drawing board with a sketch of a goat on it. He also has a few pictographs hanging up, of Fado, of a goat, and of himself on Epona.
He has a huge shelf full of little books, most of them likely of maps. He bought them from the traders that pass through Ordon seasonally. They’re his favorite collection.
He has multiple spare sleeping rolls, and a spare saddle, as well as two old and rusted lanterns, one hanging up ad one by his travel gear. All of these were used when he camped out in Faron Woods, especially during wintertime, when he had to hunt for food. The one in his house looks to be a fair bit nicer than the one he generally uses. It looks more like a European-style saddle, which isn’t as useful for farmwork and travel as the Western-style one Epona usually wears. Speaking of, that one has a Hylian Crest on it.
Link also has a whip in his house. It doesn’t look like it’s been used much.
He’s got a wooden pitchfork, likely for harvesting grain. It also doesn’t look like it’s been used -- considering how it’s hanging up, it’s probably ornamental.
Link has a little clothesline in his house to dry his clothing. Considering its proximety to his fireplace, it’s probably faster to dry his clothing inside than out. He also hangs up corn cobs in his house and has them lying around here and there -- they keep the house smelling nice.
Up one flight, he has another pictograph of himself riding Epona, a pictograph of Malo, Talo, and Beth -- it looks like Talo was taking a selfie! -- and a completed drawing of a goat on goatskin. On a shelf, he has charcoal pencils and an inkwell, probably for drawing. He also has a completed shelf of sketchbooks, and some spare pillows.
At the top flight of his house, there’s only a window. It’s his lookout post -- since he lived at the edge of Ordon, his job was to make sure no bandits or monsters came into town (that’s also why his door is on an elevation -- being the first line of defense made him most exposed to danger, so if he had time to get ready while bandits were trying to climb the ladder, he’d be safer and he’d have the higher ground). He slept on the job a lot, though.
He doesn’t own a bed. He slept a lot on the big carpet in his house, by the fireplace. It was very warm in winter because of its proximity to open flame, but because it’s on the bottom floor, it was also cool during the summers.
All in all, his house was very home-y! He took great care of it. It was his own home, after all, his “inheretence” gift from Rusl for becoming an adult. He lived in it for about five years all on his own before he left on his quest. During the time he was gone, it got dusty and fell into something of a disrepair. He cleaned it up before he left Ordon permanently, post-quest.
