The details are never shared with strangers, but one of the reasons the Aicherius family made it out of the Great War alive is Courcael - Fria's great-to-the-power-of-n grandfather, and an Altmer.
Born shortly after the beginning of the Third Era, Courcael has watched generations of his family grow up, mentoring most of them. His memory is going and he couldn't tell anybody much about the historical events he has witnessed, nor exactly how many generations he has seen, but his family takes good care of him. Understandably, the Thalmor wouldn't stand for a human sympathiser during the height of the war and he was forced into hiding in Elsweyr, protected by Vivien and Ontus.
He may not be all there these days, but he has almost six hundred years' experience of staying alive and no intention of going anywhere.
