So that last reblog made me remember about the time my cousin David tried to teach me how to drive in Mario Cart because I SUCKED at using the joystick.
David, his sister Amy and my Aunt Sissy Pam lived a good 3-4 hours away from where we lived on the mountain, so we would go up there only twice a year to see them. Every time we went we'd play his Nintendo 64 and my personal favorites were Mario Cart and anything Pokemon.
Now the thing about David is...this guy is a GENIUS when it comes to anything and everything cars. He had those models that had the thousands of peices you had to put together and they were all replicas of real cars. He had enough Hot Wheels for about 10 kids, he literally had giant containers FULL of them. At 9 years old he could tell you the basics of how a car worked, what this part did, what model, brand, some history about it and what year a car came out.
The last time I saw him he was fixing up Corvets and selling them...for fun. I could go on and on bragging about how FREAKING AWESOME he is but that would take forever. Same with his sister, Amy was a genius too. She's getting an honorable mention cause she's FREAKING AWESOME as well but if I bragged about them anymore we'd be here 3 years from now.
So David thought it was a travesty that I could NOT drive in a straight line to save my life in Mario Cart. I'd still beat him sometimes (no idea how) but...lets just stay I was falling off the road more than driving on it.
And do NOT mention Yoshi's fucking canyon level to me that level is impossible and whoever made that thing can kiss my ass.
OK BUT THE POINT IS David threw down his controller when we were playing many years ago, and announced that this could not continue, I NEEDED to learn how drive with the stupid joystick.
So he sticks in some car game where you drive through a city where weirdly there are no people. Might have been another racing game idk it had a red car and there were obstacles you could smash into. If anyone has an idea what this game is please let me know.
So he powers it up, gives me a brief explanation on what to do and leaves me to practice while he works on another of his insane model cars. If it helps you picture this better I was around 10 and he was around 11. Literally building a small scale car. It had like, and engine and shit. Sorry still can't get over this guy and his cars.
So I'm driving along, trying not to smash into anything and failing, when I go down an alleyway that has a dead end. There was NO WHERE to turn around and I struggled for a good 3 minutes until I somehow managed to shove half the car THROUGH the dead end and into white space.
You guys that are old enough remember how back in the day that if you angled the camera right in old games you could see the infinite void of white space where the programming for the game ended. As a 90's child I'd seen this in about every video gane I'd ever played but I had NEVER gotten STUCK in it before.
I yelled for David while trying to get out of the void to no avail. David comes in complaining that it hadn't even been 10 minutes when he stops dead, looking at the tv screen in complete bewilderment.
"How the heck do you even manage that?!"
"I don't KNOW but I'm stuck please help."
He spent 5 minutes trying to undo what I did, and after it was obvious that I had managed to permanently get half the car stuck in the programming void (which was kinda cool because you could turn the camera and see nothing but white with the front half of a car sticking out of a wall of white) he finally relents and restarts the game, but not after giving me instructions on NOT to go down that alleyway again at all costs.
Five minutes later I'm yelling for David again because I took a wrong turn and got stuck in the same alleyway exactly the same way.
To this day I can still hear him yelling "COME ON, SERIOUSLY????"
