Size - How do I determine size?
When you decide to place an order with Lone Tree Leather Works for a new custom leather belt, the proper size might just be the most critical element of the order. It won’t matter how much you spend on your new belt - if it doesn’t fit you, it will stay in the dresser drawer . . . . . . so let’s take a minute and study the method we use to determine size.
First of all, it is critical that you use our method. Please don’t be tempted to estimate or guess based on your pants size. Also, other belt manufacturers whose belts you will find in retail stores do not use the same system we do so please do not give us the size stamped on your old belt.
So here we go - just take a belt that you are currently wearing and lay it out upside down on a table. Hook a tape measure on the fold of leather where the buckle is attached.
Then pull the tape down and and measure to the hole that you are currently hooking your buckle in the most often. That is the number that we need for size.
In this case, the size is 36 1/2″. You don’t have to be exact with this measurement - just close. We will use this measurement to punch the center hole on your belt. Then we will add two holes on either side of the center hole for adjustment at 3/4″ spacing.
If the buckle you intend to use on your new belt is the one that is on the belt you just measured, then you are all set.
If not, compare the two buckles with your tape measure -
If there is a significant difference in the length of the two buckles (in this case, about 1 1/2″), then you need to make the following adjustment:
1) buckle is longer - then subtract the difference from the size
2) buckle is shorter - add the difference to the size
We hope this all makes sense. If you use this system to determine your proper size on your order form, 98% of the time, your belt will fit perfectly. Remember, size is not an exact science. All genuine leather will stretch a little with wear.
