cows was so determined to gross out and shock the reader that by the end of the book it seemed like the author gave up trying to make a story that made sense and just made it as nonsensical and disgusting as possible

"cows" by matthew stokoe just didn't disturb me and it's making me worried about how far gone i am. i just don't feel anything anymore. but maybe that's the whole point. maybe that was lucy's black sludge. maybe that's what the book was trying to say. life is killing us when we fail to find meaning and are reduced to looking for any possible stimulation in violent and disturbing places.
