A Drunk Review: Cozz "Cozz & Effect" LP

Easily digestible rap. 

Upon first listen (I’ve listened to this whole album in its entirety over 5 times this week), I didn’t actually realize I had listened to the whole thing. Once I did, I sunk into that “oh my god, what do I listen to now?” panic that I tend to get into every once in a while. 

But that was a long time ago or what feels like a long time ago… And I’m drunk now. Drunk off alcohol and drunk in love with Cozz’s buttery flow. Ew. Okay, I’m just saying, it’s smooth! 

A perfect intro with “Dreams” - “Always had dreams of bein’ rich huh??” I love a record that confronts you straight off the bat. This whole album is very L.A. hip hop. References to Compton, belittled by black and white people alike, hustling to get your music played by tastemakers and hipsters. These are all things that are addressed, but in a new way. A younger, fresher, less jaded way. 

"You dream of bein’ rich? Wow!" 

Like J.Cole, he knows how to make himself out to be a humble new-comer (he just started rapping in 2013) while still bringing an impressively clever and easy flow. So now you wanna know more, not because he’s about to “blow up” but because he’s so kind. So sweet yet so real. 

Smooth sax on “Knock tha Hustle” Feat. J.Cole

Hard hitting verse after verse on the trap style “Ya Know That” 

Listen if you like J.Cole. Listen if you like radio hip hop/rap. 

Great production throughout. 

I’m tired, I wish I could listen to this in my sleep.
