Lunar Halo and Aurora This photograph was taken in Norway in 2011. It captures two features of the night sky; a lunar halo, created by light reflecting off ice crystals in the atmosphere on nights when the moon is full and particularly bright, and a color burst from the Aurora Borealis. Both of these can be visible to the naked eye if the lighting is right. -JBB Image credit: Håkon Iversen Photography http://www.flickr.com/photos/hknivers/5362600795/
