Our group has been assigned to the Angeles National Forest to help with a river clean-up on Saturday, 2/16 from 9 am – 2 pm.
READ CAREFULLY- Everything you need to know:
Meet PROMPTLY at 9:00 am:
Gateway Visitor Center
1960 N. San Gabriel Canyon Rd.
Azusa, CA
FROM HERE we will Caravan up about 8 miles to RICON FIRE STATION
*PLEASE let me emphasize timeliness, so we aren’t all waiting around for latecomers before we move on up the mountain
1. DRESS APPROPRIATELY! Expect to get dirty, and WET. You will not be standing in the river/stream, however you WILL have to cross a stream, which will require shoes getting wet. (There is a possibility of crossing on rocks, but be prepared to have a pair of shoes to cross the river in. (NOT SANDLES) Check the weather. This location is at a higher elevation, and where you will be will have morning hill shade—which equals COLD.
Gloves, tools, etc., will be provided at the location.
2. It is suggested to bring a change of socks/ shoes and even clothes to keep in your car. Unless you want to drive home wet. (cold toes are not fun)
3. YOU MUST COMPLETE a Bronco Volunteer Consent Form and turn it in to the Center for Community Engagement before volunteering.
If you know you have not completed one, please come to the office 1-108 ASAP. If Megan doesn’t have one on file, she will be calling to be sure you complete this. YOU CAN NOT VOLUNTEER WITH CAL POLY until you have completed this. You only have to complete one during your Cal Poly career.
4. Water, snacks, and a lunch will be provided. (nothing to write home about, probably energy bars, sandwich, cookie, and fruit) Please bring additional snacks if you need/desire.
5. T-SHIRT! You get a T-Shirt for volunteering through the Center for Community Engagement. These will be available at the site.
6. If you can no longer attend this event, please contact Megan McDaniel’s ASAP, so we aren’t waiting for you to head up the mountain.
