Captain Hook is such a horn-dog!
Hahahahaha!
I've been seeing way too many of these, I had to do one.
Hi, I'm auditioning for Captain James Hook and I'll be singing "Hooked On a Feeling" by B.J. Thomas.
"We're Going Home" wonderful vid by gss42x
So my friend gardenstate22 told me about this video of Colin answering fan questions. Why have I never seen this before?? It's super adorable, he's all hot and talking and stuff, so yeah, sort of, watch it.
On Killian Jones: *spoilers for "The Princess Bride"
One thing that I keep coming back to is Colin O'Donoghue's choice to use the Dread Pirate Roberts from "The Princess Bride" as one of his inspirations for his portrayal of Hook.
The thing about the Dread Pirate Roberts is that he doesn't exist. He's a persona, a disguise that is put on in order to instill fear and obedience. The Dread Pirate Roberts in the film...could be anyone. The evil ruthless Dread Pirate Roberts in the PB is actually Westley, Buttercup's true love. He's the hero, not the villain. Someone who is spared from death on more than one occasion by the strength of his love. Beyond the usage of:
which in itself is very telling about the movie tie in, the fact that the villain is not the villain, but the hero is very important to Hook/Killain's character development on the show. Yeah, Hook is kind of a jerk when we first meet him, but keep in mind we first see him surrounded by his crew, to whom he commands as captain. As we hear in the PB "Once word gets out that a pirate has gone soft people begin to disobey you and then it's nothing but work work work all the time" :) Later on we see him with Milah, and realize that he is actually capable of love, real love, to the point of spending 300 years trying to avenge her death. His desire for revenge consumes him so much because of the depths of his love for Milah, but even with that hatred for Rumpelstiltskin driving him on, once he meets Emma he begins to wonder what his life will be once his revenge has been carried out. What there will be to live for. Like in the PB love may save the hero from death, just like it does for Westley. It has been so interesting to watch how Hook has begun his transformation into one of the heroes of the story, from The Dread Pirate Roberts into Westley and where his character will go from there. I have no doubt we'll get to keep our cocky swashbuckler, but also get our hero, the best of both worlds.
Just something that's been on my mind, thought I'd share it with my shipmates. Now all we need is Cpt. Jack Sparrow to show up and it's a party ;)
