Jin Gu*ngy*o: something I don’t like about the original novel
among the sex scenes and homophobic stereotypes, i also hated how like almost everybody was homophobic except for the main gay characters aside from wwx’s own internalized homophobia (all of these characters which were villainized at some point in the novel btw, less so lan wangji but ykno. he was still punished/shunned for his actions and was also portrayed in one of those harmful stereotypes as predatory or forceful at certain points) or when mxtx was like ‘no gay people exist except for them’
on that note, everything about mo xuanyu’s character makes me so upset, he deserves better
im just gonna rant about other things i dislike since i’m thinking about it now, which are how the women have very minimal roles in the novel and almost all of them are dead now, how wwx’s cynophobia comes off as a joke or is made light of, how there wasn’t really any indicator or build up or resolution in terms of nie huaisang’s role in all of this until the end of the novel, i didn’t like how we didn’t get to really see any of jin zixuan’s development like jiang yanli deserves better, and idk personally i might need to reread it but i wasn’t a big fan of novel wangxian. of course the later parts (excluding the sex scenes and parts which can be contributed to stereotypes) post timeskip were nice, but i just didn’t feel much room for build-up in romantic feelings in the past as much as i did in cql or even the donghua! to be fair, that also might be contributed to the story coming from wwx’s perspective and he didn’t realize his own feelings or lwj’s feelings until after the timeskip and he also has a faulty memory, but that’s just my take
Lan Xichen: the scene/chapter/whatever I found the most heartbreaking
nightless city kills me in every version of mdzs like that shit tears me apart! everything about it really hurts like the lead-up from qiongqi path when jin zixuan is killed, when wei wuxian breaks down and says ‘can anybody tell me what i’m supposed to do?’ and when wen qing and wen ning say their goodbyes, when he returns to the jin sect wanting to confront jiang yanli but cant face her after everything, the confrontation at the conference, her death.. it’s all so much 😔another is of course yi city, especially in the audio drama hoooly shit
edit: everytime jiang cheng is like ‘i want my mom and dad’ after the lotus pier massacre im like 😭 and then the golden core reveal scene and jiang cheng’s breakdown at the guanyin temple were also a lot
