Craig Hodges the Forgotten Hero

I never knew who Craig Hodges was prior to reading the interview with him from “The Guardian”. I’m glad to finally have been exposed to who he is and what he stands for. His words resonate so much & spoke to me in a way that bridged his generation to mine. It let me know that we’re not alone. Not to often do i meet or hear someone from his generation admit their wrongs or where they failed at & yet still strive to make things right. He has also confirmed that his generation dropped the ball on building within the black community instead of focusing on oneself. While that may be true, can one be blamed for trying to fend for themselves as oppose to trying to build as a whole? i do think there are two sides to that theory.

Hodges mentioned his support for Colin Kaepernick, a quarterback in the NFL, who also was black balled for kneeling on one knee during the national anthem to express his solidarity for social injustice.

Anyway, during his time in the 90’s, the support and solidarity was nowhere near the same as it is now in 2017. People were more afraid then to speak out and create change. The same way people are still afraid now and that’s ok, they can’t be blamed for that. Systematic racism/white supremacy is dealing with a relentless generation of folks who arent here for it. This time around, the support is much different. We have a larger population of folks who recognize, understand & support movements dedicated to uplifting and catering to the black community, especially thanks to social media.

What I wanted to continue with is this is our country...We're born Americans whether we want to accept it or not and we have a duty to the generations following us to get this country and it's laws in order. Our forefathers and mothers did it with way less resources than we could ever imagine so why are we not handling business? United we stand divided we fall...NO!
