Stop thinking and start doing. My year in the kickstarter class.
Look guys, I’m writing to say that Craighton’s class is perhaps both the most rewarding and tear inducing class I ever had. The deadlines could be absolutely brutal, the field trips can be......inconvenient, the sleep non-existent, and the setbacks can be devastating. Hell, no sleep and then waking up to go to an extremely early class and then the six hour kick starter class was...well.....hell.
BUT......
This class also produced one of my best and my most favorite project ever. In fact, it let me do a project that under normal circumstances would never be made. If it wasn’t for the deadlines, the thing would never had been done. This class let me work on a project I was so passionate for that I was willing to put in so much of my time, blood, sweat and tears. And hell, It even got nominated for something. And none of my other projects ever were nominated for stuff, good grades sure, but never that.
And maannnn oh man did I learn sooo much. I mean yes, a lot of advice was basically “don’t go to china for manufacturing”. But so much of the advice was basically life hacker for kickstarter. It was always great to hear words of encouragement and pitfalls to avoid. But I ended learning how to use a laser cutter, how to quotes from manufacturers, where to go when you’re current manufacturing fails, how to print comics, how to color them, and even how to staple bound.
Thanks to the kickstarter class, maybe my dream of making comics may not be so far fetched after all.
And for that I’m eternally grateful.
