One thing that I really love as an artist is to challange myself and draw things I'm not 100% familiar with. Or sometimes work with colors I haven't worked with before and seeing how it turns out in the end. And this image sure was one of those images that combined both things. Usually I work with more muted tones and stick to 2-3 colors max. Sometimes if I'm feeling fancy, I add a 4h color as accent color somewhere. But what happens if I introduce 5 colors in my color palette? Am I able to keep the vibrancy up? With all those question in mind, this image became very challenging. To add to my frustration, I was also struggling a lot with the original character ideas , so I changed the style midway. Relying on style elements I typically use in Motion Graphics and shade it in with the things I know about lightning, and voila. It worked. The other challenging part was that vibrant colors can get muddy REALLY quickly. So I used an entire weak just with digital color mixing and seeing how it works, later I adjusted the colors a bit with color grading. Generally, I think I did a decent job here. Yeah, there might be a few things I could improve on but after 2 Weeks I finally want to move on. Maybe , once I learn more about colors and anatomy and all this jazz, I return to this image and do a redraw.. We'll see what the future holds in for us!)
