I indulged my inner child and drew my favourite things for Crayola Crayon Day. It's a shame in inner child is such a terrible artist.
March 31st- Crayola Crayon Day
In an effort to celebrate today properly, I decided to delve into the world of Crayola and find out a little more about the company. It pretty much started in New York in 1864, and although it's changed form a few times, the company is a pretty solid one. There are a lot of different facts I could churn out at you now- when the company floated on the stock market, who founded the company, but there are two facts in particular that stuck in my mind. 1) There was a poll in 2001 to establish the favourite crayon colour choice of the average American, and I can (not-so-exclusively) reveal the nation chose- Blue. Yeah I know, bit of an anticlimax isn't it? Interestingly, the top 10 contained 6 different shades of blue, which sounds like a title for a tame prequel to 50 Shades of Grey. 2) There's such a thing as a Crayola Hall of Fame, which is pretty much where colours go to die. Or, to put it another way, when colours are no longer 'useful' they're retired. Some colours that have moved on to pastures new include – maize, raw umber, lemon yellow, blue gray, orange yellow, orange red, green blue and violet blue. Which is a shame, because I bloody love a good raw umber. Anyway, I don't actually own any Crayola crayons, but I do have a batch of their finest felt-tip pens, so today I decided to do a little art therapy and draw a collection of my favourite things. In case you're wondering; yes, I'm crap at drawing, and no, that's not a pylon at the bottom of the picture. Tomorrow- April Fools Day!
