Let it be known that Rebecca Albright is NOT a good Christmas tree decorator.
Sure, she loved helping her parents set it up as a kid, and Abuela Pilar would also make a huge deal about it. But that was long before she started living alone, and to say she’s a little out of practice nowadays would be extremely kind.
Luckily, she has help. And “helps” seems to be rather good at this.
She comes back from the kitchen holding two styrofoam cups full of a thick, hot liquid that smells pleasantly of chocolate and cinnamon, and places them on the table, far away from Waffles’ reach. The dog, however, seems to be having a lot of fun taking the decorations out of the box Zeke brought and making him chase him around the sofa to get them back.
These are scenes she wishes she’d had the chance to enjoy before.
“Waffles, leave Zeke alone, or I’m going to take you to your room!”
The dog stops for a second and tilts his head, looking Becky straight in the eyes before he drops one decoration, grabs another one near Zeke’s foot, then scampers away to Becky’s room.
This, of course, earns the pup a stern look, but still makes Becky smile.
“You’ve spoiled that dog rotten, Zeke. He’s defying my authority now.”
