Maybe go over the scene strategically. What’s the point of it? Aim and outcome. Look at what you are most unhappy about. Dialogue? Setting? Ambiance? Jot down the scenes main purpose and then if it meets all it needs to and you’re still unhappy maybe it’s time to drop the perfectionism. A good artist knows when to call it quits. They stop overworking the medium. But yeah. Get some space from it first.
Nah, what I’m most unsatisfied with is actually none of those. It’s the flow.
And it’s not really a case of perfectionism where I keep “fixing” a scene that hasn’t changed in order to polish it up, or make it nicer etc - the scene itself has changed at least 4-5 times. As in literally what happens in it. The way my plot’s structured is a little broken with a lot of time jumps (this is stylistically deliberate) so getting the right flow is a bit of a challenge. Everything else turned out fine; it’s just this one scene (that I’d left for last because I knew it’d be the hardest).
Also, I suppose this is where we may have to agree to disagree but also with regard to your perfectionism comment, I can’t post something I’m not 500% happy with. I know other writers are more chill about this sort of thing, and I respect that, but I only want to post things that look spotless to me and that I’m absolutely proud of without any regret. So you do you! I want to keep working on this fic until I’m happy with it - I may complain and moan and groan about how long it’s taking, but I enjoy writing this fic. I wouldn’t be doing this if it felt like a chore, and I’m almost done, anyway. Thank you very kindly for your input, though; hope writing is going well for you *__*b
