Creative Hitz MA2600 Review
The first rule of headphones - more expensive not equals to better quality sound or make. The money could be mostly spend on its brand's marketing, and it peeves me off when I don't get the bang of my buck on a purchase, especially when they break pretty quickly or the PVC leather flakes off quickly.
I'm referring to consumer level headphones. Those that you carry around while travelling, or just casual listening at home or at work. After a few pairs of expensive headphones/earphones from name brands broke pretty quickly or delivered disappointing sound despite their price - I have decided never to spend too much on a single pair of audio equipment. I am after all, not a professional audio person, I just need it to listen to my music.
I accidentally discovered the Creative series of headphones at Challenger recently. For those uninitiated, Creative is a Singapore home-grown brand who is a pioneer in the sound card industry. Sadly, their products don't appeal to the mass market after it's famous battle with Apple back in the early 2000s.
The Creative Hitz MA2600 is currently selling in Singapore for $89 and for Challenger members, you get 5% off. What's great about this earphones is that it delivers a good balance of treble and bass... which means you can listen to your favourite singer's voice but still enjoy the beats going in the background.
For the price I paid, the clarity is stunning. I could hear very low beats going in the background of my A-mei songs that I never detected before. The bass is not overpowering, but delivers a good amount of "power". The ear cups sit over your ears, so expect it to be kind of big. The headphones don't come with carrying case, and although the headphones can be rotated they do not fold, so expect it to take up quite an amount of space in your bag.
Unfortunately, the headphones only come in two colors - white and black. The black has some gold parts, which makes it really nice and classy. The black model was sold out in many Challenger outlets in Singapore - and in the end I had to grab my copy at a nearby Harvey Norman that didn't offer a 5% discount.
